Most memorable videogame from your early childhood?

I was tripping the other night and started thinking about how the movies we watched and games we played as kids have such a big impact on our lives. They can tell you a lot about who a person is.
Mine would have to be Castlevania II for the NES. I was too young to actually follow any objectives but hopping around whipping zombies and that cool music, I think it's a lot of why I like zombie movies and progressive metal these days.
How about you people?

It's a toss up between Robotron, the original PacMan, and DigDug.

The very first game I loved was Contra for NES. AWESOME GAME EVEN NOW. Maybe you're theory's right. I've been a very violent person inside for most of my life. I repress it a lot though over the years because I knew it was wrong but really didn't know why until a couple years ago. Now i've developed my own views and what not and have a much better feeling of why most violence is wrong, but I still have a lot of urges. Most of the time I maintain it by fighting in a boxing league.

I remember playing my Commodore 64, but the real fun started with NES. But the game that had the biggest impact on me as a video game, was deffinately A link to the past. Honestly that game I still believe is the pinnacle of game development.

Was definitely Interstate '76 for me. Everything about it was perfect, the setting, the cars, especially the music and storyline. It all seemed very possible.
I think that game influenced my tastes in music quite a bit, also it's probably the main reason as to why I like and ended up buying an older car. Now I just need to find a way to mount some machine guns on it... or a paintball gun, that would work too.

Too bad i'm only half serious... although that does mean I am still considering it. I have my reasons for the machine guns though, especially since you wouldn't have to worry about stopping to reload as much. The mine layer and oil slick dispenser sounds nice too though, if not quite a bit more complex.
It really was a great idea though, for both a game and real life. I've even seen discussions on setting up a sort of damage indicator much like the one from the game, i'm sure a lot of it is very possible to do on a real car.
I've actually been thinking about something like that as a business idea, a sort of destruction derby with paintball guns. Sounds very fun, but I haven't exactly worked out the details yet, maybe if i'm ever extremely rich someday... Well, sorry to get this a bit off topic, easy to get carried away with this sort of thing for me.

switching to early adulthood without trying to hijack this thread, i'd have to say that street fighter and mortal kombat took many a quarter from me. and once i got out of college, we played mario cart 64 reliiously for years. there was also a relatively unknown sega genisis game in the mid 90's called star control that a friend and me played everyday in melee mode (we played each other instead of doing the actual game).

In the 1970s my father brought home a computer from his company and said: "this thing will take over the world in your lifetime".
And so right he was. It had a chess game but I was too young for that.
In 1983 my brother and I went wild about Wizard Of Wor for the Commodore 64, and this would be my first memorable game. It's fun even now, the graphics are good enough for a shoot-em-up, and its still an addictive game. I've attached it, but you'll need a C64 emulator, I can't get the controls to work properly yet. Now that's 16 kB well spent, unbelievable such a fun game can be so compact!
I can't move properly on several emulators. If you find a way to move in all ways please post which emulator and how. I'd love to blow some afternoons on it like I did in the early 80s!

The first computer game I can remember being hooked on was Zork, but it was text based only.
This Zork you mean? It works on MS-DOS but again: at your own risk!
In XP I just unzip, click the progam file ZORK, an MS-DOS screen opens and you're all set.

Yep... I wrote an emulator for a class project in college that could run any of the early infocom games.... at the time I was into natural language parsing.

Another great game in the early 1980s was ofcourse Boulder Dash! I've done some websearching for games of old and lo and behold: somebody made a freeware that looks, feels and sounds exactly like the Boulder Dash of old, but runs directly on all windows OS without emulation!
Young'uns, this one is OBLIGATORY! Download the file, unzip and click the icon.
This is what the best of gaming was like some twenty years ago!!
The game has 200 caves as well as an editor which allows you to create your own custom ones to drive your friends nutsy
This is one of the few games from the ancient years of computing that actually is still playable. Have some mercy: the original was written for a computer with 64 kB of RAM memory, with almost half of it occupied by it's proto-OS.
It has passable graphics and sound and relies on a combination of brainpower and decisiveness. enjoy!

Zork!
I remember that game. You had to find 10 treasures or something like that. Then you went into the house and down into the basement and you found some secret passage. Then some monster-thing killed me.

Shit... lemmings.
So many afternoons lost to that game. Near the end it got REALLY freaking hard. It was insanely challenging.
