i watched the super bowl, but i didn't catch these ads. pretty typical from our government, but i hate to see such bullshit aired when EVERYONE is watching. (not to mention the issue of funding which you can read in the article) http://www.workingforchange.com/activism/action.cfm?itemid=12761 hope others feel outraged . . .

The letter misses the point. Sure, the money used for such adverts could be more helpful in other areas - but do not ignore what is really occuring in Colombia (the terrorist-drug trade issue that the White House's Office of National Drug Control Policy has been alluding to). Yes, the FARC (the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) is supported by drug sales just as the recent just-say-no adverts have pointed out. However, the ONCDP fails to mention that every level of the Colombian government, militaries, and paramilitaries also receive a vast majority of their funding from the drug trade. This is the same government that both Clinton and Bush Jr. have authorized nearly 3 billion dollars in aid to in order to "fight the drug war" or "eradicate the drugs from the source." This is the same corrupt regime that has been the leading recipient of US arms and training in the Western Hemisphere in the last 20 years - despite the fact that the Colombian government both is involved in the drug trade and routinely engages in terrorism against innocent civilians (they have a list of human rights abuses a mile long - the longest in the Western Hemisphere, by the way - they make the Taliban look like saints). So, yes - purchasing cocaine does fund certain "terrorist" orgainizations. But so does the US government on a much grander, more influential way. Of course, our support of terrorism will not be the target of this so-called War on Terror. I suppose the Bush regime is killing two birds with one stone: 1. perpetuating the Drug War 2. gathering support for more involvement in the Colombian Civil War for the sake of securing Colombian/Latin American resources for the multinationals to plunder. If you liked Vietnam, you'll love Colombia. More info: Znet Colombia Resources Colombia Report
