i moved about 5 gigs of videos from one hard drive to another (from the new one to the old one) and then deleated the originals... i don't quite remember why but my computer crashed on me just got stuck and wouldn't respond at all so i pushed reset but then after windows took forever to load and when i tried to access the old drive it slowed again and took forever to close and "end program now" so i tried defragmenting my drives... didn't change anything
last time i tried to access that drive it froze and after a while said "drive is not formatted... would you like to format now?" no thanks!!! i've got like 20 gigs of videos in there which i don't really want to part with just yet...
i figure formatting it would solve this problame but is that my only option?

just a note... the drive sounds like a cricet! like it's stuck in a loop or something...

i should also note that once it's done "thinking" or doing anything i regain full use of the computer... but if i even try to open "my computer" folder and it needs the info on the drive size it freezes up for a long time untill i can finelly terminate the explorer... once i do that it takes a while and everything is alright again.

Run a hard drive diagnostic utility on your hard drive you are having the problem with. It sounds to me like your hard drive is failing. If you know the manufacturer of your hard drive you can download a diagnostic utility from their web site if they offer one. I know Maxtor, Western Digital, Seagate & Hitachi offer utilities for their hard drives via download. You can boot to their utility either by a floppy or CD and select your hard drive you want to test and then run a thorough (extended) test or scan to see if it has errors. Before you do that you may want to try to backup your data if you can.

Formatting your drive will erase everything on the drive you're formatting. (I think you already know this but I just wanted to make sure)
