i was just messing around with spores the other day and i decieded to try growing mycelium in water. I put about 3 tablespoons of brown rice flour in 2 cups of water and boiled it. i then put the mixture directly into a plastic bottle, put on the lid, and let it cool. after it cooled i injected about 2 cc's of puerto spores into the side and sealed it up with tape. its been about 3 days and there are a lot of white chunks floating around. Its doing a lot better than i expected, but i dont know what the best thing to do with the liquid mycelium. can someone help me out?

It can be used much like a spore syringe, just suck it up and inject. However it might be wise to first inject some peroxide into your jar to eliminate bacteria.

In terms of minimizing contamination, it's the best way. You could also just open lids of sterilized medium and pour the mycelium solution directly in. However, without a flow hood, your probability of sucess is pretty low.
Next time, try making brf water that does not have any chunks in it. Boil some BRF, take the liquid, and run it through some coffee filter paper a few times until you see no chunks. It's pretty impossible to suck those chunks of mycelium up into a syringe, and this will help you eliminate that problem.
Also, if you want to save the culture you got going right now, if you can sterilize a blender, blend the shit out of the solution, make sure you add about 10% H2O2, and then suck it up into a syringe.

does the peroxide only take care of the cobweb mold, or does it get rid of the other kinds too??

use malt extract and water next time as it works just as well..Hit it 1ml h202 to 100mls of water to kill most ungerminated nasties - its a great way to ensure that the spore solution is sterile

i tried the malt extract but it doesn't seem to be working. I inoculated the jars of the extract and water at the same time i did my pf jars and the jars are 3/4 colonized but the malt ones have done nothing

Here is a little tek for anyone who may be interested - old ideas undoubtedly but good ideas:
You can try A or B
A. is a simple water / malt extract medium which can be used to germinate spores in. Simply get yourself a baby jar and add to this a solution of 1ml malt extract to 100mls water, sterile is a PC, then over a flowh. or using the oven tek, etc, quickly open the jars and scrape some spores from a print into the jar, close and shake. Within 4-7 days these spores will germinate. When you have you substrate (pf jars or whatever) you can add say 1-3mls of h202 to the water jars to kill any ungerminated nasties, leave for 24 hours to recover, then extract into a syringe - this works the same way as a sporesyringe, but colonises faster AND is an easy way to ensure sterility.
B. is an adpation of a in which i prepare the jar in the same manner, but rather than scraping spores into the jar, i extract the malt/water first into a syringe. I then prepare a seperate jar with a taped hole in the lid that is PCed empty.
Once this second jar is cooled, i scrape spore into it in the same manner as for making a syringe: scraping spores in, closing and then inserting syringe tip into the hole in the lid, injecting the solution, then sucking the solution AND the spores back up. Within seven days the spores will germinate in the syringe.
