I'm sure this has been asked before, but...
Can anybody recommend some hip hop that's not all about bling and bitches? But is still good and not too overly intellectual?

nah man, I made that. Its just a little piano loop from an old record, plus custom drums and bass. the voices are from an old tv show that sprung off the x-files. that episode was about the us government flying airplanes into the twin towers in order to start a war... but it was created and aired about 3 years before any of that happened.
thanks for the kind comments, been working hard at this stuff for a while.

The only one I've come across is Atmosphere, their lyrics actually have some meaning... usually. Like...
Took a right on Lyndale I'm getting near But then the road became empty and the people disappear'd The clowds ran away, opened up the sky And one by one I watched every constellation die And there I was frozen, standin in my backyard Face to face, eye to eye, starin at the last star I should've known, walked all the way home To find that she wasn't here, I'm still all alone
There's probably better out there, but I don't listen to enough rap to know =P

Atmosphere(coming to bonnaroo)
Common(also coming to bonnaroo)
Umm I do not mean to be offensive but that Jewish rapper maybe someone know I'm starts with an M i think.(he too coming to bonnaroo I belive)
Del tha funky homosapien(in Deltron 3030)
Danger Mouse
DangerDoom(danger mouse and MF Doom)
Damian Marley for some hip-hop/reggae.
Hope this list does you well.

Well, I feel like I say this in every hip hop post ever, but 'rap' is a verb, my friends. hip hop is the music. if you hear someone call music 'rap,' it probably sucks and is radio fodder.
now everyone go listen to eyedea and/or mf doom

rap can be used in two forms. the first as you said would be as a verb. (ex. "to rap"). but rap can also be used as the name of the music style. (ex. "rap music").
