Microwave Sterilization

I was curious
I want to know if sterilizing with a microwave would work to save the time and money of buying a pressure cooker. If it does work how long should I nuke for and will it matter if i use 1/2 pint jards with metal lids? alos should i put some extra water in?

I bet you could find a way to use jars, but you can't use metal lids. I think I might have heard something about wax paper on the top of the jar and extra water, but I have no specifics/experience.

Possible I'm sure though. Lots of people don't trust the microwave tek though, for reasons I'm unsure of.
