Ten percent bleach works well, but unless it's white carpet, it will be ruined. If you plan to be there for awhile, don't worry about it. Bleach bomb away. Just spray into the air and let the mist fall to the floor until the carpet is wet. Close the room up for a day to let the fumes work. RR

Ozone, bro. If you build it, the contams will die.
Combine this with a HEPA and you're set.

You can lay plastic sheeting down over the entire floor. Duct tape the edges. RR

I second that. It's easy to do, cheap, and you can wipe it down.

Yeah, like the ozone generator in my sig. It will kill the beasties in the carpet...a HEPA will collect the crap, and the ozone kills what gets caught in the HEPA. It's a hospital grade method.

You can also go to a Lowe's, Home Depot, flooring store and purchase some cheap vinyl sheet flooring, then lay that on top of the carpet. Carpet is essentially a room filter; thus, everything in the air will eventually fall into the fibers. The vinyl sheet flooring is sturdier than plastic sheeting, can be mopped, and is easy to remove.

You can buy a 12 foot X 100 ft roll of thick mil plastic sheeting at Home Depot, Lowe's & the like. Then, carefully carpet & wallpaper the whole room with it. Without damaging the walls. Overlap the corners about a ft & hold the plastic in place with some cheap plastic molding & a few sheet-rock screws.
