Sporeless Carpophores?
    #541108 - 02/05/02 08:18 AM (23 years, 3 months ago)

I just harvested a large quant. of PC Cambos, and decided to make some prints for posterity, but after more than 12h on the slides, there is no spore deposit. The gills are healthy, dense and fully formed, but not terribly dark.

Anyone else have experience with this sort of thing? Not sure how to explain it.

OK, after a quick search (which I could have done b4 posting), I realize that it is likely the spores aren't fully formed yet, and I should just give it time.

If it's something else, lemme know, otherwise I'll post again if my theory doesn't pan out.

Try putting a very small drop of water on the tops of each cap, CAREFULLY.
12 hours is a long time to see no spores from mature caps. Maybe you got some sterile shrooms?

I agree that it is a long time. And it has been 24h more, and still no deposits. But I'm sure they are not sterile, for 2 reasons: one, it was a multispore culture, which means some might be sterile, but not all. And two, I dragged a fingertip across the gills this morning and there were spores left behind.

I did put a drop of water on each cap, which did not seem to help (yet). Is it possible that too MUCH humidity could also inhibit/slow spore dispersal?

Or maybe this particular strain is reluctant to drop spores.

Strange . . .

I got the same problem a couple of months ago..
it was P.C Orissa India that didn?t want to let go of any spores..or very light prints...i didn?t seem to get it right, no matter what i tried..My humidity was a little high..multiple spore inoc...and the gills looked really good...the caps sat for +24 hours...only very light prints..even tried to tap the caps with a knife very light..
Beats me....

Peace
