Mixed Answers on this board Please Clarify

I dont have the exact urls to show you but i read thru this forum until i stopped at page 36. I was mainly focusing on inoculation, humidity, jar wetness/dryness, incubating tips and slow growth topics. This is my second time incubating. First time was a complete sucess. I am doing this by the book. I have 24 jars in a double Tupperware setup with a submersible heater set and running at 80 degrees. I do see slight white growth in some of the jars and no white growth in others.. They wetness level seems to be perfect. I have a few questions

I am patient so I will wait another week before i start to worry. ( I'm on week one)

I saw a post stating to loosen the jar lids slightly to allow the flow of Gases. Is this correct?

I saw another post that stated I should shake my jars and place them back in the incubator upside down to move the gases around. Is this true? and will it harm 7 day young jars?

I currently have about 4 thick towels covering my jars to keep the warmth in and the light out. This fabric is sterile. However, Should I be concerned about the non movement of gases since they are all covered? If so is it safe to run a few air pump hoses into the incubator to move in fresh Oxygen? If not what do you suggest and how often..

Thats it for now@!! Thanks SOSOOOS Much my world has changed for the better thanks to everyones support here.

If you have holes for gas exchange, there's no reason to loosen the lids.

When I did PF tek, I turned some of my jars upside down. It occured to me that I was disturning the verm layer. I'd only recommend flipping jars that were almost colonized and having trouble finishing, otherwise you're asking for contams (which I got).

The towels should be fine, I'm not so sure about pumping in fresh air though.

Moving fresh air in will lower your temp!!

FIRST THINGS FIRST.
You doing brf or grains? BRF jars, IME, can take weeks to even show any signs of germination. Grains, dependent on your prep, bout a week all should show myc growth (given fresh & healthy spore stock).

Regardless of what you're doing, your jars should have outlets for air exchange already. If they don't, get on that. Do not crack the lids unless you have no holes. The towels shouldn't impede anything, just lift 'em off every coupla days or something.

Good job on reading all those posts! That's commendable! Have you checked the guides? They might make things more clear if you have mainly focused on the forums.

A good place to start is:
http://www.shroomery.org/index.php/par/3

On a similar note:
You don't need to humidify your incubator. When you birth or spawn your jars, they will be moved into a fruiting chamber. That is what needs the humidity.

Hope this was helpful,

I mainly do BRF jars prepared in the manner discribed in my linkage down below.
The best way i find to check for MYC before u can see it is... sometimes the jars look like they are moist..i.e..water droplets..or the sub looks a tab smaller... OR it feels alittle warmer then usall since the MYC is ALIVE!!!
I have noticed that in most jar runs(i do 50 a time if i can) 1/2 about a 1/4 ratio of pints/halfpints) in about 13ays is when i see growth. then they are down in about 5-6. I like this better because from looking 10-20% colonized then to 100 in days. MYC doesnt move to well through PF substrate because it thick(thats why i add coco coir)

You can also add COCO to other substates to help "fluff" up the mix.

DONT PACK DOWN THE SUBSTRATE. if you did :P

I am using BRF, I have 24 jars. My water temp is perfect no matter what. I noticed that when i first had the incubator running the submersible heaters were not doing a great job keeping all of the water 80 degrees. So i added a air pump, ran a tub with a bubbler stone attached to it and ran it at the bottom of the incubator. Well this made movement in the water which kept the warm water moving all over.. so..
Hypercube, after reading your post i feel a lot less worried about things. As to reading thru the forum post, well i am a admin.. why ask questions if you can find them already asked.. tonight i am going to tackle the experiment forum.. that should be fun!! My jars do have 2 holes. Once i have a few incubators going im going to try an experiment where i flow 20% Pure Oxygen from a bottle mixed with 80% air all thru out my incubator.. I want to see if that helps things. NEVER breath in 100% pure oxygen from a bottle.. You will pass out!!

Bump temps up that will cause quicker germination as well as growth (84-86F.). Also you want CO2 during incubation so I suggest going back and reading the basics first so you'll be on the right track for success and not on the track to failure. GL and Welcome!
