Conditions for cyanescens
    #5409451 - 03/16/06 05:28 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

I know the perfect cube conditions are 70-85 degrees and 12 to 36 hours after rain, but when is the best time to go for cyans? temps?

Rainy, foggy, slightly above the freezing point by night, only slightly warmer by day.

Here we call this time of the year Autumn.

I think this poster may have been talking about Copelandia cyanescens. Cubecollector, usually we call these copes. Cyans typically refer to Psilocybe cyanescens, which grows in the PNW. If you are a cube hunter, then I assume you are looking for copes. They grow in similar conditions, but typically have a more southern distribution. Florida west to texas along the gulf coast.

Copelandia cyanescens and Psilocybe cubensis both fruit under the same kind of conditions.

They (the spores and mycelium) compete with one another for the cow patties.

On Rare occassions you might find both mushrooms growing from the same cow patty, but its rare.
