First grow, ~72 hours since inoc with SA @ jar temp of 86. First 24 hours jar temp of 70. WBS. South American. Jars inoculated 3-4-06 12pm.
Go myc go! The race is on!

Hey i was wondering..what if you dont shake the wbs jars? i did an experiment with one of mie i shook it at like 20 percent...but what if you dont shake at all? heres how i do it...i inoc the jars then shake then inc util 20% then shake again at 50...

Bong I have a study going on right now about that!
3 jars are shaken(the one in the pic has been), and 2 are not.
The 3 that I shook have spots of myc in random places in the jar. Some high, some low, on each side etc.
The ones that have not been shaken only have myc at the top, directly below the inoculation points.
Since the transports for contams are at the top, it seems wise to me to make the top colonize first. We will see what happens.

not shaking your jars just causes them to colonize for longer periods of time. By shaking the jar you are spreading the myc around which allows it to colonize to completetion quicker.

i like the idea of not shaking right off teh bat though. let that top part get all colonized and keep out contams. this is if you don't trust your gas exchange filter i guess.

SHould you shake brf/verm jars as well? Or would it not produce the same effect?

I don't know as I have only given brf a cursory glance. I'd check the cultivation guides and see if it advises it.

To clarify,
3 jars were inoc and shaken immediately.
2 jars were inoc and not shaken.
1 of the unshaken jars is a control jar, is still in the inc. and has not been touched at all.
The first pic labelled as 'unshaken' is the one with the myc only on the top and was not shaken at inoc.
On 3-8-06 two shaken jars were shaken again, one was not.
The pics posted on 3-9-06:
Top one is the main one that has been posted everyday and is the first one posted.
The next one is an 'originally shaken' jar, but was not shaken on the 8th.
At this point, their is a little bit of myc everywhere in the shaken jars. They were shaken after the pics todays and will not be shaken again the duration of their colonization.

Looks like I'm gonna be ready to spawn sooner than I was anticipating.
I checked on them again(5 hours from the time the last pic was taken) and a good bit of the myc has changed. It's much more dense and almost 'crystaline' looking. is this 'rizo'? This stuff is friggin amazing. It more than doubles it's size every 12 hours. I'm strait up dazzled!
So what do you old hands think? 2-3 more days? Is the stuff that is 'more dense' the visual clue as to when to spawn? Is it gonna do something even more kick ass before I know it? I can't shake the feeling that it's gonna jump out of there and give me a backrub, or site the constitution out loud, or fire laser beams..awesome.

48 since last pic. Dual layer of loose fitting A-foil has been removed today. Seems a little more myc has gone 'rizo', and alot more myc piss is seen.
PCing the bulk substrate and casing material as I write this.

Shaken jars won. They were spawn and cased on the 14th.
Notes:
In the shaken jars most of the myc was very fluffy, airy in consistancy. It resembled cotton.
In the non shaken jars the seeds almost 'glued' themselves together. They definately created a single mass. In these jars it was more difficult for the myc to penetrate the substrate. It was observed that their was little to no 'fluffy' myc in these jars. It was almost pure rhyzomorphic growth. I believe that this wastes precious myc energy. How this will effect fruiting I have yet to observe.
