Tom Waits---Any Fans?

one of my good friends is always talking about how much he loves Tom Waits, and I've never really heard his stuff before? Well, he gave me Rain Dogs a few days ago, and seriously, I dont know I've listened to anything else since.
Just started DL'ing his discography, but at 785megs, and 10/kbs from this shitty seed, it looks like a 2-dayer.
But yeah, Tom Waits = Super Good. Awesome voice and if you listen to lyrics, its really pretty deep...

One of my good friends is a massively passionate tom waits fan
I've listened to a little of his stuff, seems cool, but not terribly accessible

I love the album "Alice" but that's as deep as my Tom Waits experience runs. He's an artist I always want to explore, and one day I'll delve deeper into his back-catalog, but I dunno...it takes a certain mood, methinks.

Tom Waits.
I only own Bone Machine, but I've heard Rain Dogs and a few others. He's an amazing artist, and yeah, his lyrics can get pretty deep. =]

Tom Waits rocks.. I miss Pappy, he'd surely have a few lines to drop on this subject
I currently have his Alice, Big Time, Nighthawks at the Diner, and The Heart of Saturday Night albums; in addition to about 75 single tracks (some of which are repeats, I'm sure). At any rate, I like this music in almost any mood thanks to its uniqueness and in many of his songs, its softly mellow consistent roll which lends itself very well to backround music while working on whatever the task may be.

I like this...Postcard from a Hooker in Minneapolis.
Sad, but poignant....
Quote:
hey charlie i'm pregnant and living on the 9th street right above a dirty bookstore of euclid avenue and i stopped takin dope and i quit drinkin whiskey and my old man plays the trombone and works out at the track
and he says that he loves me even though its not his baby and he says that he'll raise him up like he would his own son and he gave me a ring that was worn by his mother and he takes me out dancin every saturday night.
and hey charlie i think about you everytime i pass a fillin station om account of all the grease you used to wear in your hair and i still have that record of little anthony & the imperials but someone stole my record player now how do you like that?
hey charlie i almost went crazy after mario got busted so i went back to omaha to live with my folks but everyone i used to know was either dead or in prison so i came back to minneapolis this time i think i'm gonna stay.
hey charlie i think i'm happy for the first time since my accident and i wish i had all the money that we used to spend on dope i'd buy me a used car lot and i wouldn't sell any of em i'd just drive a different car every day, dependin on how i feel
hey charlie for chrissakes do you want to know the truth of it? i don't have a husband he don't play the trombone and i need to borrow money to pay this lawyer and charlie, hey i'll be eligible for parole come valentines day

Alice is a great concept album, and likely the most accessible. I highly recommend Rain Dogs, and after that probably the Heart of Saturday Night or Bone Machine. They're all good, though. Tom Waits is an American music icon.

Rain Dogs was probably thee best album he could of borrowed you to get you into mr.Waits.
Check out Early Years vol.2, I cant find one, I only ever saw it once on vinyl, and the next day it was gone.
Swordfishtrombones, and the black rider are amongst my top Tom Waits albums, his new stuff IMO isn't as good as some of his earlier stuff.

I'm goin ot West where the wind blows tall!!!
Tom Waits is the shit! I love all of the stuff that I have heard from him. He experimented with the antivocal thing, for awhile. I have respect for anyone that tries that.

I wonder if this is the song sheik likes.
Les Claypool plays bass on it
and it sounds like bones clangin' to me. But a lot of Waits does.

I really like his stuff. It's soulful, whiskey-drenched music. Small Change is one of my favorite albums I've heard. There's a lot I have yet to hear by him. His newest album Real Gone is very good too.
