As some of you may know, I work for a screenprinter. I got a request for a shirt design of an original mandala for some coffee joint in the area. I like how it turned out, so I thought I'd show it off a bit. Maybe if I have time someday, I'll color it. Created in freehand MX.

i think that's awesome ... definitely color it! maybe even invert the image so that the black outlines are white and you can color in those ... the shapes would contrast against a bold black background pretty well I'd say
i actually just started working for a printing company a few weeks ago ... a grip of learning curve for all the different kinds of printers, creating vehicle wraps, etc. (especially with nobody to directly teach you if you don't ask questions) ... but the experience will be truly invaluable ...
thank god i 'wasted' so much time with photoshop and illustrator through high school ... or I'd seriously have no chance in today's world!

Working at printing companies can be trying sometimes, especially when you are constantly dealing with people who know nothing about printing...having to dumb down talk about dpi and vector vs raster and process vs spot color printing...some people just don't get it.
But the rest of the job makes up for it. Having all this nice powerful technology at my disposal is invaluable.
HB, I'm sure you'll do fine at this job, you've got more talent in your little finger than most people do in their entire being.
Thanks for the compliments, guys!

I dig the mandala - would like to see more vector stuff in that vein, and a color version!
Question about printers (since there are two printing maestros in this thread): What is the best printer for home use? I'm sick of going to Kinkos and letting them fuck up my colors. Perhaps you could simply point me in the direction of a brand? I realize the good ones are probably expensive, but I've already spent a ton getting my stuff printed by Kinkos. Much appreciated!

I really like the high end Epson printers. A friend of mine from art school had a model simliar to the Epson Stylus R2400 and it put out the most BEAUTIFUL photographic images...At my work, we use an Epson Stylus Pro 7600 for film outputting and it is a behemoth! But it puts out super crisp images. Of course, using a Pro printer is going to add at least $1k to the price...
Basically though, I recommend any high end Epson printer that uses the 8 color UltraChrome ink. Hope this helps!
