Shroomery Federation of Foodies

Would anyone be interested in doing something where a group of us participate in making, and reviewing, other's recipes? Like, one person posts a recipe, then the rest of the group prepares and reviews it within the week. Each week we rotate to a new person, and a new recipe.
Anybody down for something like this?

Shroomery Iron Chef, sans time limit
It'll take some organization though, and time permitting in terms of others being able to re-create and test the dishes within a week.

I think if we can get 5 or more people it would be worth while. Have to sort out the details as my original post is only a basic outline.
I just figure this would be a good way to experience things you might not try otherwise. It would also allow for some feedback/critique.

I say people with the available funds should participate. Nothing too complex in the ingredient department because not everybody has the ethnic store near them.
No broke asses lol but seriously we should get this rolling within the next week or two.

I'm totally down.. I just racked up a shyton of grub at the grocery store today. Gonna braise me some pork chops this evening and got some more flank steak for the grill o'er the weekend -- not to mention tons of snacky hors d'oeuvre crap, plus three beers; Guinness (it was $6 off per 12-pack AND it came with a $2 coupon off any meat item in the store!), a sixer of Killian's Irish Red (it was also discounted), and a sixer of Hornsby's Amber Draft (would've preferred the Draft Cider but they've been dry in that department for a while now ).
Samplin' the Killian's right now at around 50?F temperature I reckon. Beatiful color with a refreshing taste.. nothing to write home about but for $5.99 a sixer I'm game
Someone draft some preliminary guidelines for the cookoff here in this thread - then we can throw down some feedback and ultimately start a fresh thread detailing the entire shindig.

Participating members so far: daimyo You_Suck geokills morphogenetic Odiumjunkie SpicyTunaRoll
PRELIMINARY DRAFT
Procedure: 1. Try and keep some sort of limit on expenditure. Not everyone is going to go out and buy wagyu and foie gras.
2. On Sunday, by 3:00PM EST, the recipe of the week is posted.
3. Throughout the week, whenever possible, each member buys the ingredients, and cooks the dish(es?).
4. On Sunday, everyone posts their review, and we discuss. Also, the next recipe gets posted.
Other Considerations: These are just my ideas. Feel free to say what you think should stay, go, or be added.
1. Anyone with a food allergy, speak up.
2. Maybe list prices to get an idea of regional cost? Just for shits and giggles.
3. Who's got a camera? Should photos be required?
4. Everyone list your available equipment, and for the first round we try and work around what people have. Then, once we see how this works out, we can step into the smokers and deep fryers and whatnot.

actually, I'm going to have to pull out, I can't gaurentee I'll have enough cash on hand (I'm very, very poor ) and I think this will be a better project if everyone can have a go at cooking everything.
I will follow this project with interest though!

**edit** as far as what i have, anything you'd find in a kitchen. what i don't have is a grill / smoker / anything like that (unless you count my george forman). i'd have no problem sitting out the weeks yall wanted to grill something though.
there's a huge grocery store here so i should be able to find any ingredients.

I think part of the fun would be seeing how people might tackle the same dish via different methods. For example, you don't have a grill, but you could indeed use your Forman, or even a cast iron skillet or griddle plate. Who knows? But it'll be cool to see how the dishes come out through slightly different methods, ingredients, and chefs.
Myself, I got all the normal pots and pans, strainers, assortment of knives, gas grill, toaster oven, bigass oven, and a blender. I'll have to sit out on the microwave dishes

Ahh I love this thread already.
So the first recipe will be posted tomorrow afternoon, correct?
Most people have digi cameras so I'm sure pictures wont be a problem for MOST people.
How do we decide who posts the next recipe? Just go in order from the list that was just posted? Daimyo, I think it'd help a lot if an updated list of whos IN and whos OUT was updated every week atleast. Might cut down on the confusion, kind of like the Official Roster.
Well I'm definately stoked for this so see you guys here tomorrow!

You all wanna start this tomorrow then? Does everyone agree to the parameters? Anything to add? We'll go with pictures, and listing costs, optional but encouraged. And nobody has any allergies?
I thought of two more considerations. First, one dish, or one meal? Or whatever the recipe poster feels like doing? Two, are any categories out? Do you guys wanna just stick to main dishes, or should we do everything? Salads, soups, desserts, drinks, breads, etc. I'd like to see anything goes, but let's get a consensus.
I will be glad to start it off. As for who goes next, how should we go about that?
My Equipment: Oven, stove, pots and pans, grill, smoker, deep fryer(small), slow cooker, fondue pot, microwave, blender.

Let's start this sucker tomorrow!
I work all day tomorrow and school is monday, but Im sure I can cook up the meal on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Just a suggestion, but there should be ONE thread for EACH weekly recipie...and the only people who should post in that thread are the people who cooked it up and reviewed it. Other wise it'll be jumbled up with crap that no really wants to read.

This sounds awesome. Sign me up. Although, would it be ok if we were to put up the next weeks recipe a little ahead of time? The only issue I see is people putting it up late. Also, if that weeks submitter falls through, the next person up should be able to put in their recipe instead and so on. You miss a week, you're out till your next rotation.
Whatchyoo think?

Right now the recipe is to be up by 3:00PM EST on Sunday. Maybe Saturday would be better. And if it's not up by 12:00AM EST on Sunday, then the next person goes. Is that better?
As for who goes next, since nobody has had any ideas regarding this, let's just go in order of who decided to participate: daimyo You_Suck geokills morphogenetic Chazzersize SpicyTunaRoll - sitting out for a round or two. skip over. ThaiLipaYai bobjones GabbaDj mack_tasticlies Yarry Jfisher
And I had one other idea. I think it would be good if the recipe poster sent a PM to the participants when they post their recipe. That way, if it slips someone's mind to check this forum, they will be reminded. Or is that more hassle than it's worth?

I don't think there should be any problem about putting up recipes earlier than scheduled, but you should still list the appropriate "week" in the subject title for your thread, so that people won't feel stressed tryin' to crank out a handful of recipes in rapid succession. It'll be interesting to see how many people follow through with this project - I think it'll be pretty cool if most of us can make these weekly dishes.. probably add some great new food to our repertoire.
