Anyone ever grow peyote from seed?

All information i found suggest germination in course sharp sand.....
Then using a 1:10 ration of fertilizer:water on them after they germinate.......
Would one just use any normal cacti fertilizer(such as schultz or miracle grow cactus)? I cant seem to find recommended N-P-K for lophophora...... Would the N-P-K differ from applying on young seedling to adult??

i jsut germinated 100 peyote seesds, well i havent counted them yet but the garm ratio is defently high. i have used mini greenhouses with ordinary cactus soil with some fine vermiculitte as medium. havent fertilized them yet tho.

its not just straight sand....
course sharp sand is:
This is the most useful germination medium available anywhere. It is better and more environmentally friendly than perlite and is reusable in making good quality potting mixes.
To prepare the sand you can start with any grade, but the coarser it is, the less work you will have. Take a kitchen sieve and place a couple of cups of sand in it. Fill a large bucket with water. Now jiggle the sieve in the water so that small particles get washed out into the water (they settle at the bottom eventually). Keep doing this until no more particles wash through the holes. Keep the sand that is in the sieve - it is called 'coarse sharp sand'. This process is important, as it eliminates the small sand particles and silt that lock up the structure of the sand. Without removing this fine stuff most seed will rot rather than germinate.
During summer it is also possible to dry the sand and sift it dry to get the bulk of the fine stuff out. It should however still be washed at least once.
For difficult or slow seed it is recommended to serilise this sand just before use by baking on a shallow tray in the oven at 200deg C for 2 hours.

I germinated mine on fine, oven baked sand. I set them on the surface, any that got covered with sand took longer to germinate. Watered once and covered with plastic. No fert for 3 months after popping. 54 out of 60 seeds germinated. Lost only one to fungus.
When I get my camera back I will post photos.

i would like to see the photos
what im mainly asking is: what is the best fertilizer for peyote?

I have 2 small peyote that are grown from seed, (6 months old) and I dont think I would want to give them fertilizers yet. They were sown in a mixture of sand and normal soil so they will have nutrients for quite some while. But if you need to give fertilizers get any made by a reputable company: Shultz, Pokon, etc..

Ok.....well ive decided to do a bit of an experiment, just for fun.....
I will roughly follow a couple different 'teks'....
-one: growing just in course sharp sand and fertilizing right off the bat(with the dilute mix)
-two: growing in a more traditional soil:sand mix and waiting 3-4 months before fertilizing
We will see which has a better growth rate, least problems(fungi/disease),etc

ive only grown san pedro before but what i did, was buy a cactus mix soil.. then when i got it home, i baked it in the oven in order to kill any bacteria that may be on it.. i know i killed some helpful bacteria also, but thats where fertilizer comes in..
but yeah.. i used the pre-made mix, and overall 100% of the 20 seeds sprouted.. but i did make 4 separate mini-greenhouses to help insure perfection

I noted this post is very old and inactive, but I hope someone will post a reaction on the question I got: did you guys change (cycle) temperature to get the seeds to germinate? I've read somewhere that if you lower the temperature at night and increase it during daytime, it will increase germination probability. And how about light cycles? Some plants can be given light 24/7 to have them grow as fast as possible, can peyote cope with that or would that kill the cacti?

The majority of the people who posted in this thread have been inactive on these boards for some months, some for years. The chances of getting your question answered is slim but you never know....
You shouldn't really dredge up these old posts unless you really have to, not against the rules but it's considered poor form and you'll sometimes get the locals flaming you. You could of just made your own thread and you would get your questions answered.
To germinate peyote from seed you want a temperature range of between 20-28C and you'll get them to sprout. The key to successful germination relies on fresh seed. If seed is fresh you can expect up to 80% to germinate. Temperature fluctuations aren't recommended, keep them constant for uniform results.
