Ever push on your eyes?

I've noticed this since I was a little kid. One day I leaned my head on my hand when I was sitting in school and the pressure on my eye caused all crazy shapes and colors to appear. It's weird because even if I push on my eyes with the bottom half open, my vision gets black and the colors and shapes still appear. Anyone know what I mean? WTF causes that to happen?
For those who are going to attempt this for the first time, don't push so hard there's discomfort, just apply firm pressure.

When I was a little kid (1st-4th grade) I used to push on my eyes and look at the colors and shapes that you're referring to. Then I'd interpret those colors (usually just 1) and the shapes to tell how my day was going to be. Kind of weird now that I think of it.
No idea what causes it.

When I was a kid and would be laying in bed weird shapes would come out. I do not know why...

I still do it occasionally, it can get pretty intense right after you wake up- similarly right after you get out of bed, while its still dark lookoutside and stare at the blinding windowscape for a few seconds. Then when you close your eyes and go back into the darkness after a few moments you should see a picture image of what you were just looking at

I used to do that in middle school or something. I'd get these crazy patterns that looked like I was traveling through some kind of space sort of place. I would pass through all kinds of layers and through clouds of lava looking stuff.. only to keep going as more random things would pop out. Yes it was that boring in school to where pushing on my eyes was more fun than just sitting there.

what you are seeing when you press on your eyes is the effect of increased intraocular pressure on your optic nerve... you are overstimulating the nerve causing it to fire and confuse your brain. I wouldnt recommend this since it is essentially giving yourself a temporary artifical glaucoma.

there is a difference between intraocular pressure and blood pressure.. intraocular pressure is the pressure of the vitreous humor inside your eye.. blood pressure only has a very minor effect on that.. the visual changes you get when you stand up from a sitting or laying position are caused by a drop in blood pressure which causes a very brief lack of oxygen to the less important areas of the brain (ie. visual acutity centers, hearing centers in extreme cases)

I used to do this all the time, telling my friends of how I was flying through the caves of planets, however they all thought I was crazy. You have to use the right tek to get it right. That's interesting you brought it up, it has been so long before I ever thought about it.

If anyone's seen All Dogs Go To Heaven.. when Charlie's blasting through that psychedelic tunnel into heaven... that's what I always thought about when I was a kid. That music would loop over and over in my head and I'd just trip out. Eventually the kaelidascope would become shapes, figures, things, animals, people and I would just trip and trip. I always thought that it couldn't be good for my eyes so I'd "pull out" every once in a while.
Fuck, I did this every Sunday at Church. My grandma forced me to go, so I'd do the exact same thing that you guys did and put my Bible on my lap. Screw that, I wasn't reading it. I was trippin! I just didn't have drugs yet.
I'd sure as hell like to know what causes this tunnel vision or CEVS. They're comparable to some high level mushroom and weed trips I've had! I don't do this anymore as I'm too scared that I'll ruin my eyes. It sure is fun though.

I get the tunnel thing when I close my eyes, its like I'm flying very rapidly through some sort of spacish structure and I can move in whatever direction I please, moving from tunnel to tunnel to tunnel, I can actually make it last for minutes with my eyes closed, very fun when I was a kid.
also, Sometimes before bed I get really intense organic patterns of color that move... I don't know what thats about.

Yeah, haha.. I used to like to take a bunch of deep beaths, then hold it... to give myself that light headed feeling.. I was doing that when I was only in 4th grade Just for the sake that it altered my mind. I was destined to be a drug addict even that young. Sometimes that shit would make me see stars too lol.

yes. in fact, i have determined that this (and spinning around in circles to get dizzy, although to a lesser extent) were my "gateway drugs". once i found out i could push on my eyes and see cool shit, it was all over for me.

I also did it quite often as a kid but now that I think about it it was alot like trying to sleep off mushrooms.. funky colours.. everything connecting. I actually rather like going to bed after shrooming just for that effect.. lay there for about an hour just having fun with your brain

Wow. This looks like it's appearing to be a common trait amongst us trippers? Or maybe just lots of kids used to do that? Who know's..
.. I used to "watch tv" in my head as well. I used to trip and wander into deep, spiritual thought when I did stuff like that. It was like meditating to a lesser, more burnt extent.
Sparking? Does anyone know any websites where you can learn about this?

Holy Crap! When I push on my eyes I have a trip of sorts, I was just doing that for maybe 20 seconds and it became so intense, that was really weird... Morphing shapes and colors is what I saw then I started to feel like I was losing myself :S Really odd.. I may have to investigate this further...
