I have never used brf. I exclusively use any number of different grains. What I know is the potency is choice with grains.

I too have found potency to be somewhat lacking with brf cakes compared to grain. A noticeable difference. Rye produces much more potent fruits IMO..
Rye can also be um..be spawned into more jars... and shaken so a quart colonizes in about 10 days. Not to mention the increase in yield from casings as compared to cakes.
Birdseed also produces some potent fruits, if you want to stay with cakes you could use a more nutritious substrate..like rye flour, birdseed, wheat flour, quinoa, or other various grains.
Rye is easy..and quarts = more mycelium
and faster..
and stuff

When I used to grow from PF style cakes, it usually took about 3 grams dry for a mild trip. I grew the same strain on rye and got the same level from just 1 dry gram. I wonder what happened to the brown rice powder on that fateful day? No one knows for sure but it is reported to be collecting dust at an unknown location.
