Those are standard lids for those jars. Put the disk on, rubber seal up, then screw the ring on FINGER tight. Then PC them for an hour, and when they are cool and there is no pressure in the PC, open it and tighten the lids tight. Then you can take the lids off and use foil when you go to inoculate. I suggest poking holes in the flat part of the lid and covering them with tape. Then follow the above instructions.

thanks heaps for all your help

"Put the disk on, rubber seal up, then screw the ring on FINGER tight."

this is so there is space for the air/pressure/steam to escape when i am PCing? FINGER tight, means tight, but not completely tight yeh?

"when they are cool and there is no pressure in the PC, open it "

so after the hour and i have turned it off, i leave the PC for about 15 mins? longer? my pc doesnt have any gagues.

"I suggest poking holes in the flat part of the lid and covering them with tape. Then follow the above instructions."

holes on the edge?
this is for inoculation later? or air/pressure release during PC?

No problem!

Correct

"when they are cool and there is no pressure in the PC, open it "

so after the hour and i have turned it off, i leave the PC for about 15 mins? longer? my pc doesnt have any gagues.

No, you have to leave the PC off the heat for at least an hour (after the hour cook time) before you open it, longer if you can wait.

"I suggest poking holes in the flat part of the lid and covering them with tape. Then follow the above instructions."

Yes, if you poke holes now, then the pressure will not be a problem and you can inoculate through the holes later

Now, if you poke holes in the lids, then the jars will not be sealed completely and will not last as long as years. I suggest going to wallymart and getting 3M Micropore tape ($1.77 per roll) and covering each hole with it. Then make sure to cover the jars with foil before you PC. Leave the foil in place until you are ready to inoculate.

Another option is to take the substrate you made and seal it in a ziplock bag...then just PC the night before you inoculate.
