Please Comment on these L.w.'s - Pictures!
    #5403553 - 03/15/06 01:42 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

These will be one year old on April 5, 2006.

Do they look normal for this stage?
Are they the correct color/size?
That shiny thing on the right is a quarter.

Any suggestions/comments?

Thanks.

They are perhaps bit on the small side but otherwise they look OK. Suggestions? Patience.......

Thanks; that's what I needed to hear.
But actually, I'm a bit more concerned about the color. A bit on the sunburned side?

Is indirect light better/worse than shaded direct light?

Actually not to sound harsh but im going to give it to you like Simon Cowell. Those things look absolutely horrible. Too much direct light, not enough humidity. The soil aint any good the whole nine yards. They look barely alive man.

See the browning on the mid part of the upper one, thats a peyote equivelant of a sun burn.
Shame shame shame.

Yeah, that was my fear. I thought I was doing what I should be. They are on a patio that faces NW (in N. America), and when it does get sun, there is a sheet of cheesecloth over them to filter the light.

So how can I revive them, and how can I tell if they are still alive?

I feel just terrible that I did this to these little fellas.

Advice, please?

there sunburnt and stretched at the same time, very similar to mine a wile ago.
i had stretched them, then gavethem more light wich turned out to be too much.
i fixed it by putting them under florescant lights, i may slowly introduce them to direct sunlight when there 2 or 3 years old.

anyways i would repot them to sand/soil 1/3 and maybe a bit of gravel or perlite.
bury them till they look like peyote again.

heres mine after a few months under the tubes:

there like 1 cm in diameter now.

Excellent advice. Thank you everybody.

I forgot to point out that the "black charcoal" you see is just a thin layer of fine gravel to prevent the soil from blowing around.

Hippie3: What a work of art! Congratulations. I am very envious of your skills!

Thanks again everyone.

Dont worry about it man. My first try at peyote seedlings looked like a car crash. They was allot healthier than those but they was stretched so bad they looked like a columnar cacti.

Practice makes perfect. But them under a compact flouro or something in a plastic bag.

I realize these are an exceptionally slow-growing species. But cacti are hardy, and I've begun the long slow road to recovery. The little fellas are in the ICU (intensive care unit) in my closet, under a compact flouro.

How long until I should notice a rebound if one is to occur? Six months? Less? More?

Im not sure im not really a peyote seedling expert. I believe that a compact flouro depending on the output may be too much for them. What I would do is put mylar around the walls and point the light at it and let the seedlings only get the reflected light. Or use a low wattage tube light. Remember these things are smaller than a pencil eraser. They dont need all that much light.

Really I would just put them near a south facing window but that may not be an option for you.
