bank giving out confidential information?
    #5403009 - 03/15/06 11:29 AM (17 years, 10 months ago)

ok, i got a call from an old address i lived at today. they told me that chase bank called about my credit card. apparently they didn't recieve my last payment, so they were calling to let me know that they reported me and charged me a late fee (even though i've had a good account with them for 6 years).  i informed them that i did send the payment, but they told me "sorry, this is not a bank error. we can not waive any late fees or withdraw reporting, becuase it's not a bank error."  so, i informed that that i was well aware that they can remove them, but will not. so, the lady got testy with me and told me that if my local mail delivery system is not up to par, then i need to take the responsibility to make payment in another manner. she went as far to say that they are only looking out for my best interest and holding me to my account agreement.

no problem, i'm not too worried about one bad report on my otherwise great credit score or the late fees. that really doesn't hurt me. chase has been a bad bank with me from the start though and service is only going downhill. today, when they called my old phone number, they told the people that answered the full status of my account: balance, min. payment, days past due, etc.  this seems illegal to me and was probably in the contract somewhere, but i don't have my original contract. i'd like to get some input here from people who know about this sort of thing. if they are going to hold me to the agreement and attempt to cause me problems over it, they should expect to the same.

depends if they gave out your account number....

I can find out your credit card balances w/o much info on you , but to get your account #'s and personal info, sec # etc is a little harder

I would call, ask to speak to a supervisor and let them know they have been contacting the wrong party and thats why you didnt pay on time...

if they are still assholes about it transfer the balance to another card or pay it off and tell them you are doing so...

they will most likely wave the fees to keep you as a customer, may even give you a lower interest rate

goobler, thanks for replying.

i called them back, only this time i started the conversation with "i'm calling about a phone call that chase bank made to an old phone number of mine, releasing private bank information, including....."

she wasn't cooperative at first, but as soon as she checked "the records" this lady rolled out the red carpet, fees were waived, reporting removed, and she apologized repeatedly, also asked if there was anything more she could do to fix this problem.

i'm not worried about getting lower interest. i don't know how they figure it, but it's only about $8 a month as is.

1. one late payment, even a string of them will not show up on your credit
report, generally speaking.

2. chase blows.

3. inform them you are cancelling your account and transfer, like the man
above said, they will do a lot to keep you, if not, you can go elsewhere.

2. chase blows.

i can't stress this enough. they truly do. every person i know that has a chase account is unhappy with them for one reason or another.

yeah, that's the plan now.

banks are such crooks. i mean really.. fractional reserve banking? you give them your money, so that they pretend like they keep it safe, when in fact 90% of the money banks claim to own, really doesnt even exist.

bah, but who can get by without a bank account or debit / credit card these days (living in civilization)? It's getting worse, this is true.

Buy a safe, install security, hold cash for spending and gold for long term savings.
