A genius in a self-administered disguise?

Hey guys and girls... I used to have this online buddy from an IRC channel... VERY strange individual. Very blunt, very into offensiveness... but I could never help interpretting his vulgar side as a front; like an attempt to keep others from getting close to him.
I believe he's a genius. They say the line between madness and genius is very thin... and I think he's a perfect example.
Here is an archive of old writings he's done... it hasn't been updated in ages. The style is difficult to pin down... it's kind of like a journal, but it's more fictional and creative.
I can't stop reading his work when I start. I've told him he should write a book or six. He says it's hard to write books when you're drunk all the time. Sigh.
So here it is... I wonder if he'll find this and smack me for posting it. Probably not.
The Guilt Show
Read a couple and share your opinion... I am just curious if others pick up on the same degree of subtle genius behind his work that I do.

Well, I don't think he is mad, so he must be thinking on levels most of us aren't

Indeed... I don't think he's mad either... he's definitely thinking on some different levels than most. I think part of me always envied him through my distaste for his essentially vulgar approach to social situations. I've grown enough to see past such things completely, and now I really appreciate him on every level when I read his work.

I like this stuff. It's rare for me to find writing that actually holds my interest. Not because I have high standards or anything, just a really short attention span.
Don't know if he's a genius though, just a talented writer. Why do you think he's a genius?

that was a pretty cool rant and I'm also certainly a fan of Hunter's obscurity; him and Steadmen are equal in my eyes, even tho they both thought otherwise of each other. I think our author is also a fan of gradations in how topics are associated with each other Tompson and Vahnniget in particular have this great ability to "be in two places at once." It seems like our mad friend would do better in our little forums here, cause's trouble so to speak.

I'm not sure. Maybe it's an overly generous label. I have spent a good deal of time in communication with him, and it's just the label I'm inclined to call forth. *shrug*

This writing is definitely easy to read and keeps your attention. I dig it. If your buddy won't get mad, you might want to let him know that people are enjoying his writings. =]

Haha.. maybe... but I don't think he's the type to be swayed much by outside opinion...

I've read about ten of those short stories already, they're so great. This guy writes how I think. I'd post some excerpts from the parts that really touch home, but I've long since closed the window and went to run some errands.

"This guy writes how I think."
Exactly... that's what's so appealing about it. He just flows.

He's very good in a short line quotable sense. He has some real beauties "Suicide notes are the last place you should look for meaning" "She had me by the job" "releasing dizzying nightmare odors when broken by the sponge"
Great shit. But the stories go nowhere and are mostly pointless. So far. Awesome potential. Somewhat reminds me of David Foster Wallace.

I really enjoyed that. Tell him people are liking his writing, even people who seem to not care about something like that, really do care, be it just a little.

Yeah, I'll let him know. I hadn't spoken to him in years, and randomly IM'd him after a really frightening nightmare experience and a panic attack... decided to ask if he still had a page up. Low and behold, there it is.
I told him at the time that I really like his writing... but I will reinforce that with another comment about all of your comments the next time I see him online.
