Strange energy/vibration during deep meditation?
#5402276 - 03/15/06 06:59 AM (17 years, 10 months ago) |

The last time I tried meditating, I got a strong buzzing/vibrating feeling in my spine, just behind my sternum. This buzzing/vibration was very intense and uncomfortable, causing me to stop my meditation.
Anyone have any idea what this could have been or how to stop it?

You did stop it - by ceasing your meditation.
I would say - dive in head first, see what happens.

I've heard of this situation before; I would say similarly to DanoEoboy that you should dive in with this... just attempt to relax some more, take deep breaths. You don't mention if you focus on anything duing meditation - but I would suggest a burning candle... study the colours and the way it flickers. If/when this sensation appears, try to intensify your focus on your chosen object and allow yourself to be entirely involved with it. Doing this will help in you separating yourself fom the material, and see your unity with the outer world and the world beyond (for me this is represented by the flame; it lives, but not in the sense of us, or the family pet).
I hope this helps... PM me or respond if you like...

Candles were lit. Music was playing. It was a normal meditation in virtually every aspect, except for the strange vibration.
I have had odd sensations during meditations before. Normaly they are associated with sore/tired muscles. This time it was WAY more intense. Almost like someone had stuck an electrical cord to my spine, and the longer I meditated the stronger it became.

Have you had any spinal injuries? This sounds like a central nervous system obstruction of some kind. You may need to be a bit careful with it and explore some vibrational and "hands-on" therapies to get your vital energies flowing again.
(Acupuncture, crystal essences, Devil's Claw, Aloe Vera (Barbadensis orally) and "internal" sound work -mantric chanting- are a few suggestions.)

To me it sounds like the the kundilini sp? of your etheric body was waking up.
Or, it sounds like a chakra was being stimulated. When I meditate I somtimes feel my lower chakras (not brow or crown)tingling, and then I feel them as though they were swirling vortex's of energy. It's very exciting and hard to maintain. I too have the urge to break free and stop.

Note the sensation. Then carry on.
When insights occur, fascinating thoughts or feelings arise, or wonderful sensations it is very important to just note and keep on letting go.
Don't let it distract you. But to me it sounds like a good thing.
Although if you've been meditating for a while I would suspect you already knew this, and therefore it boggles me that you would ask this question in the first place.
Peace.

I've noticed that during high dose meditation (psilos) depending on the direction of my thought, or the quality, or the subject, I am subject to something very similar. Seems as though the vibration either agrees with what I am contemplating and rewards me, or doesn't and I get something like you are talking about. It only is a short zap, but definitely feels just as you described, like electricity. Enough to make me jump and feel startled, therefore ending my thought process. Its like static builds up caused by the friction of my thoughts with the thoughts of the divine. When they are way off the energy is discharged.

the energy you describe is kundalini or bio-electricity, and yes it is HOT. very hot. it can be dangerous and uncomfortable if you are not ready for its movement in the body.

What should one do if confronted with this "kundalini or bio-electricity" during meditation????

I do some meditation retreats and somthing similiar oocurs for me. However, all energy is vibration and it your mind becoming more in tune with that. Somthing you will notice is that your body will only physically vibrate when your mind is reacting to inner vibration.
I have this physical vibration quiet often especially in deep meditation. The best thing to do is to simply note " this vibration too is changing". It has been said before that the primary wisdom of the buddhas is the wisdom of change . To simply observe " yes this too is changing - it is not unique" I would also add that what you are experiencing is quiet natural and in no way harmful.
If this experience occurs again i would encourage you to simply observe the sensation. The sensation is of more importence in meditation than thoughts. So when your thinking " this is uncomftorble " " this is strange / weird etc etc " It is better that if you are going to note anything you simply note " this too is changing " and continue to observe whatever sensations arise.
If you wish to learn more on meditation there are some great meditation retreats called vipassana meditation. They have centers around the world and do free-of-charge non-sectarian 10day silent retreats.
The website is here : www.dhamma.org

good post daydream.
the guy who said kundlini energy is right, thats what it is, thats kinda the point of meditation. do not be affraid of it, just play with it for a bit untill you are comfortable. then when you are comfortable put more energy into it. i dont suggest playing with this particular chakarra untill you know what you are doing.
i would say focus on the heart chakarra. imo its the most useful, it promotes love and compassion. if you put your focus in the center/right of your chest you will get a real warm feeling kind of like love but its more empathetic.
another good chakarra to play with is the 3rd eye. right in the middle of your forehead. focus on it and most times you will get closed eye visuals. thats not really the point of it but its an added bonus.

So in other words go find someone else to tell me whats going on?? No thanks. This is how we ended up where we are. No depth of earth. I would rather find out for myself. That way the power stays with me. Chakras?! Come on. I'm out to define it for myself, you should be too. Fill in the missing growth. I'm not about to build on top of systems that don't work. you have to understand these subtle bodies, chakras, ect cannot be percieved by anyone but an experienced meditator since normal consciousness does not allow us acess to our energetic centers and pranic pathways (chi channels). obivously you are not one of these people so you will just have to go on what others give you as a way of mapping or representing chakras until you are advanced enough in meditation to shut your mind up enough and actually "see" these centers and say to yourself "oh so thats what they were talking about". chakras are not something physical, they are purely energetic, and we can only make representations of them which are similar to wheels or vorteces. Many experienced meditators from countless cultures have left us diagrams and charts and they are all similar if not identical and every one of these cultures has the essential notion of the life force or chi, kundalini, prana, mana, ect but we will call it bio-electricity. even the earth has its own bio-electricity and has major points or chakras where its energy lines converge and form a vortex. you can find these yourself but many ancients have already done that and built monuments or structures to mark them.
now if you ask for validation of these systems the most i can give you is the modern day example of Chinese Acupuncture which is not a system that "dosent work". it is based on the same ancient principle of life force/bio-electricity in subtle cannels pathways which come to rest at many points called meridians. the major meridians are known as chakras and correspond with ones from many cultures including the ones referred to in heiroglyphics on ancient egyptian temples.on average there are about 7 chakras or major centers but there are thousands of minor and lesser energy points. it is believed in acupuncture that illness is caused by blockages in the energetic centers obstructing the flow of life force and that by freeing these blockages miraculous healing can occur. i have even heard in holistic circles of people having cancer cured by a meticulous diet and much accupuncture to relieve the body of heavy blockages of energy which spur cell mutation known as cancer. of course pharmacuetical companies will not tell you this because they need cancer pantients to be dependent on their prescriptions which are not as effective and rake in millions$$ each year.
the pharoah was known to be able to project his CHI or life force from his body which is why you see the kobra on his head it smbolizes the kundalini. it's coming out of the pharoah's third eye because he can use it to project the life force and gain clairvoiyance and other poweres beyond the physical capability. the serpent symbolizes the life force in the mayan, sumerian, hindu, aboriginal and countless other belief systems because it describes the nature of the bio-electricity which is coiled at the base of the spine and rises up, curling like a snake through each chakra when roused. the kundalini is sexual in nature which makes it the most powerful energy, because this is the energy needed to reproduce life. this is the purpose of life, to raise the kundalini to the higher chakras and join your individual kundalini with the greater collective whole and experience pure bliss , samadhi. the creation returning to the creator. the completion of the cycle. you will experience its rising eventually after years of meditating or you can kind of cheat and use psychedelics. the point is to be ready when it happens and not grasp or avert to whatever sensation you feel. if the chakras are open and energy is flowing properly then the kundalini arising will be blissful. sometimes kundalini can arise spontaneously, and it can be uncomfortable if the chakras are not open and i know this from experience firsthand. kundalini is burning hot. HOT. its really not something to PLAY with. keep meditating, you will eventaully understand yourself.

I have been practicing a regular meditation regime every day and I am experiencing strong vibrations - which feel like static electricity and can cause my smaller muscles to start vibrating as well as get stiffened (sometimes a feeling similar to numbness will accompany the other feelings) - when I get into a long enough and focused enough meditation. There can be warmth however I have not experienced it get very *HOT* as someone else suggested. Sometimes there is warmth but sometimes there is only what feels like moving static. No matter how intense it gets it all rapidly declines once I stop meditating, and yes the further I get the more I tend to think I should stop due to the difficulty. It is hard for me to reach that point, though I've been doing it each day. (I am motivated)
I have not seen many others besides myself that have had any experience with this.. and so while I know this thread is old, I found it in a search and wanted to chime in. I would also be interested to know if anyone currently on the board has experience with this?
