alright... the idea came to me randomly and it is probably not a good one because i'm a little *influenced,* but what if you were to incubate your little ones upside down? [i'm referring to the jars, after inoculation and all that.]
it could theoretically work with a decontaminated terarrium& lid, with jars that have been able to sit so the spores could be absorbed... i'm not sure what the usefulness or purpose of this would be, but i'm inebreated and curious! have fun! [man this thing is cool...]

Actually, you do want to turn your jars upside-down at a certain point. After about fifty to seventy percent colonization, CO2 will build up because it's excreted by the myc, and colonization will slow or even stop. Since CO2 is heavier than oxygen, it's a good idea to let it "fall" out by turning the jars over. I place a coin under the rim so it can breath. This allows oxygen to get in, replacing the heavier CO2.

CO2 doesn't slow colonization, actually it is necessary and beneficial to mycelium at this stage of growth (along with O2)

That's interesting, I hadn't heard that before. Do you remember what source that comes from? But I believe the problem in a closed container is that CO2 builds up to such an extent that O2 is "crowded out", if you will. At least, that's what I've read. Please correct me if I'm wrong about that.

hooray! i don't feel silly now... on the contrary... woohoo!
mm... yes... i'm actually slightly in the dark as to how i'm supposed to CARE for my little ones after inoculation, during colonization/pinning, etc. the whole nine yards. it wasn't mentioned in the tek i printed.
is there a care guide here? advice? prewritten how-to? haha because from what i'm hearing in all my forums, i obviously know VERY little. thanks for all the replies!
