I have the jiffy Mix with perlite, Would it be a good idea to add verm to it? If so what ratio since it has perlite. Or would 50 50 still work? or should it be more of a 75 25 ratio? THnx

Bummer, sorry to hear that. The perlite might have a tendancy to wick out the moisture. I would think you would want to compensate for that. Hopefully someone who has used the perlite JM can give you some direct advice.

There was a lenghty discussion about this a while back. The perlite is fine. Just treat your jiffy mix like it was pure peat, and proceed with the 50/50 mixture. There isn't enough perlite in there to hurt anything.

So I do not need any verm? I am grain spawning to Hpoo. Or would the verm only be a booster?

I guess I will do a 15% verm add just for fun as long as I will still get mushrooms. Big H poo shrooms!

No vermiculite needed. Just hydrate the mix and case.

wellll the 50/50 mix is a mixture of peat and verm....so if you are going with the 50/50 mix, then mix it that way. 50...50...get it?
There are people who have had great success with jiffy mix alone, but I ALWAYS got green mold after the first flush. Now I use 50/50 with the jiffy mix and add oyster shells, and it works beautifully.

The vermiculite doesn't hurt but, it's not needed IMO.

You can use either type, with or without verm, right out of the bag with water added. I'll agree with Tokey that the addition of oyster shell flour helps for later flushes, but it's not absolutely neccessary.
