Questions and Ideas - Please share your experiences
If you had a jar with a substrate that was partially colonized ~70-80% B+ Strand. A bit over 4wks gone by. I have read that the substrate will condense as it becomes stronger.
Question: I believe that colonized substrate can be stunted in growth when incubating at temperatures greater than 85F. I also believe that the cake can become more condensed in nature do to the colonized part of the cake working harder to access the water? - Has any one else similar effects, and what steps did you take to alter that.
I was thinking if someone was in this situation, would injecting a sterilized needed, (boiled water) and injecting in the cake would alter the effects of the higher heat or possible lack of water when utilizing the pf method or does a person just need to be a bit more patients?
Please share your ideas,
Thanks

Good question, I was very tempted to add water to my jars back when I first started. Instead, I waited and they turned out perfectly.
Be patient.
this may have had nothing to do with the question, but you mentioned adding water...

It's just too hard to be patient. (c:
What methods have people utilized to speed colonization, not necessarily just pf jars but any substrate.
I am very interested in hearing information on a variety of peoples experiences.

I didn't have a specific method, I just went with a fast colonizing strain. I kept it at 75. Cambodians. They are my fave and it's fast.

Lack of oxygen / build-up of CO2 will slow growth. Are your inoc holes open or filtered? Make sure they are. Try turning the jars upside-down and knocking them loose so CO2 can "fall" out. Stick a nickel under the rim so it can breath. After turning them upside-down, soon you'll be able to see if the cakes are moist because it'll build-up at the "top", that is, the former bottom of the jar.
