Idea for modified coolmist

Hello all. I've been getting real tired of fanning my FC all the time, so tell me what you think of this idea. I've never used a cool mist but I have read that there is too much FAE and it needs to be on a timer to keep the humidity from dropping. The theory is to use a cool mist and mix air from inside the FC with fresh air from outside the FC into a chamber sourounding the intake of the cool mist. That way the FAE can be dialed in to just the right amount with a damper over the fresh air intake. I drew up some pictures to illustrate. I always like a good project so please, any suggestions or input is greatly appriciated.
Thank you all for such a great community,
Kuzco

I'm probably not your best source for information, but for what it is worth I just set my cool mist out side the terrarium and never worried about the air intake(Hippa Filter or anything) on the cool mist. They turned out just fine, but never did enough to tell if i am just wrong.
- If i am wrong though, I am straight up steal this idea! lol

That's a cool idea man. I'd suggest maybe using a Styrofoam cooler as the sealed box. It would stand up to the humidity and also dampen the noise created by the coolmist.

What, exactly, is a fogger? What would this normally be used for?

I was wondering the same thing. In Agar's illustration their is a 'fogger' placed near the bottom of the bucket. Is this like an air-stone for an aquarium?
side note: I see you're a linux user sudont.. good man! You're gonna get 5 shrooms for that.

Thanks for the quick feedback musher, I really didn't know what to use for the sealed box. A styrofoam cooler would be perfect. the lid seals down tight and it would be easy to cut the holes for the hoses. I was worried about the humidity inside the box damaging the coolmist electronics, but its a humidifier so it should be ok right? Thanks again for the replies everyone.

Anyone else want to comment? I.E. good idea vs bad idea, practicality vs overkill, crazy vs ?
Also, cool idea with the bucket fogger agar.
Also, just for the hell of it....
EQ pf cased with vermiculite 2nd flush.
Thanks
Kuzco

As far as the humidity damaging the electronics of the coolmist. I don't think it will be a problem. RoggerRabbit has said he puts his coolmist directly into his FC to keep the humidity up.
With your method tho you get adjustable FAE, you could probably control your humidity to some degree too. Perhaps think of putting a small fan connected to a rheostat (so you can control it's speed) at the fresh air input. Might make for finer adjustment.
From post I have read on coolmists dieing it has been because there outputs were only a small hose and too much back pressure was created. I'd suggest calculating the size or area of the original output and then make your modified output as close in size as possible.

Ok, so the theory has become reality. I went out and bought a coolmist and some hose and rigged this thing up today. I used two hoses for the mist output and one hose for the return air. Everything is going according to plan, but i'm having problems getting the containers to seal right. I'm dealing with such weak airflow its gotta be a perfect seal or the return flow is too weak to notice. I got some duct tape on it now for the sake of science but I'll need a better solution. Any ideas?
Ps. I'll take some pictures of the setup soon, but for now heres a crappy paint GIF I did.
Thanks, Kuzco.

So here it is! When its sealed up it seems to work great. I will try my next casing with this setup and see how it goes.
By the way that's third flush EQ from my last setup (fishtak bubbler inside a Sobe bottle and misting).

Yeah so this idea sucked hard. In order to work it had to be completly sealed with duct tape. Plus water kept condensing inside the hose before it reached the FC and ran back down and flooded the box the coolmist was sitting in. This is one of those ideas that only works in theory, like communism. Thanks for all the replys and input, but it's obvious now that this was a bad idea. So in conclusion, when Agar suggusts a bucket fogger, LISTEN!
Peace, Kuzco.
