Some Questions

I'm goin to use the rice cake method but i have some questions before i start.
*Before i scrape the spores out of the package my info. said to heat a rod or coat hanger till it gets glowing red before scraping the spores, my qestion is do i need to wait to scrape, or do i need cool it off .or is the reason to make it red is to starilise?
*A nother Q is how much sunlight is good?
*i was woundering if anyone had picures of the steps in growing shrooms ,i have the steps but it wold be easier for me to see pictures of the process?
*what is the normal charge for the doses?
If ya want please answer .

hi,
-you need to cool it down, the heating is to sterilize it. the heat might kill your spores if you dont let it cool down.
-don't need much lite, I'd put your things near a window. In fact they don't need sunlight at all. electrical light will do fine because shrooms don't have photosynthesis. but they need light so they know wich direction they have to grow to.

The method your refering to reminds me of a very UNsuccessful newbie growing tecnique. One reason is the use of a sporeprint on a rice cake. Having to open the jar long enough to scrape the spores in and then the time it takes to seal it back invites contaminiants. Not that it wont work, but if your using a spore print its best to either start it on agar, then transfer to a rice cake. Or make a spore syringe from the print and go from there. As for light, even though they donnot need much light, through trial and error, my friend has discovered that the more real sunlight you can introduce to your cakes, the bigger the fruit caps become. hope this helps:)bluhoney
