Spores?

This might be a real newB question but why do alot of people I hear talking about fruiting always talk about cutting the fruits down before the spores fall out. is that for making syringes or is it because they lose potency? or will the spores hurt the myc.?? I just need a simple answer then we can let this thread die. Thanks

There are really only two reasons I can think of to harvest mushrooms before the spores drop. 1. Pick the caps for printing. 2. Avoid the mess spores make when they drop.
Spores will not hurt the mycelium.

You cut them down just before the spores drop out (awhile after the veil breaks) to allow a spore print to be made.

There is a debate on this subject, but supposebly mushrooms stop producing psilocybin right when the viel tears, and they focus the rest of their energy on producing spores.
Imo there isnt a noticable potency difference between mature and overly mature fruits.

I believe the potency loss is somewhat exagerated, the mushrooms may stop producing psylocin/psilocybin but they continue to put on weight

Gaining weight might seem like an advantage but it's really not. If the mushroom continues to grow but is no longer producing psilocybin, you'll have a lot more mushroom tissue to ingest to get the same amount from a smaller mushroom that has the same levels. This topic is debatable though.
I already answered your question on the mycelium.
