KIDS...
    #5398770 - 03/14/06 11:39 AM (17 years, 10 months ago)

So my 18 year old kid drops out of tech school{out of state} in December, comes home for Christmas break, I hook him up with 2 weeks work at union rate.So how's school? "Oh, everything is fine." We drive him back to his place,{he wanted to take the bus} not a dorm room, a 2 bedroom apt he shares. Place was clean,{bathroom and kitchen sink}, no obvious signs of drugs or booze, Just school books on the table. So I ask " Ya glad to be back at school? " ...Yea, he can't wait. End of Feb. we finally get a letter from the school, he didn't register... he's out.The wife drives out to get him, bring him home...2 new ear piercing {no problem... his ears, not mine}, shit load of new games, thanks to those 2 checks. Now I just spent 200.00 to have 1 stud removed at the clinic because it got pushed inside his lobe like 2 weeks ago and healed over. Oh well, at least he's not on drugs... I wonder why I drink sometimes... :faded:

Have him be a roofer's laborer for a month or two. He'll be dying to go back and do good in school.

I dropped out of school when I was 18 and told my parents roughly the same stuff until very close to when I was actually dropping out. He probably, like me, just didn't want to see his parents all sketched out and view him as a failure - so while he figures out what to do, he acts like life is peachy.

Just a guess.

That's no good, but I can understand that maybe college isn't for him.

Hell, I'm a nerdly fellow who enjoys education... I'll be lucky if I manage to last long enough to get my BS.

Despite trying hard last semester and all that jazz, my GPA was laughable and I'm on academic probation. I haven't even gotten to spend my scholarship yet

I can see where he's coming from. My school situation is pretty fucked up at the moment. I need to sit down and be serious about one fucking semester, and I can get this BS, but I hate the field so much now, its a chore to go to class or do fieldwork.

ugh.

Wait untill you get into organic chemistry. Your grade will depend on memorizing things that SOUND like BS, but are totally important.

My next exam is going to be a bitch.

Most people that get degrees end up wasting their knowledge anyhow. My sister has a masters degree in psychology. Guess what, she's a stay at home mom. What a waste. But her hubby is an engineer, so they can afford to have her stay home

I wouldn't say that a psychology education is wasted on parenting. That knowledge could probably help her raise kids well.

I dont have kids, but I feel as though if I did, Id be the kind of dad who makes their kids go to college. Theyd be raised from the beginning like that, mind controlling them to go to college. Its not as if college is hard, realistically college is one ofthe most fun things to ever happen. And afterwards, even if you dont use the degree, you just spent 4 years at basically Disneyland. Anyways, your son will probably be fine, Im just saying Im sure id be one of those crazy parents that makes their kid finish college.

Man, I would beat the hell out of this kid. I'm a strict believer in corporal punishment. That's how I was raised. Granted, he is older...but it sounds as if he needs some discipline.

When I messed up when I was younger all my mom had to say was, "Your dad will deal with you" and that always made me shit my pants right there.

Tell your kid this "Knowledge is the greatest wealth, and ignorance the greatest poverty." Then kick him in the nuts.

school is just one of those things. some people jsut really hate it. some people arent compatible. but the less likely they can manage to put up with school, less likely they will put up with a job...

but what would make me made is the lack of communication and the lack of self support (and how the hell do you let an earring close up?! he needs a spanking for that, no matter how old he is! )
