Just look up petstores in the phone book. Don't just call, most of them will have no idea what coir is. It's used as reptile section and is used as bedding.

Are you sure they didnt have it. Did you just ask for it? Cant do that, no one knows they have it. Look in the reptile section as other suggested.
Also look up hydroponics in the yellow pages..if you have a hydroponic store near you they will have big bales of it, much more and much cheaper then the pet store stuff.

yea i just asked for Coco coir. They had something in the reptile section that was a brick and it didn't say Coco coir on it so i desgarded it. I am going back today and double checking it to see if it is bed a beast or something along thoes lines, it was with the reptiles though

I just picked some up at a hyro store they didnt call it coir but it was in a brick and looked about right. Pet Smart sells oystershell if you need that should be in the bird section in a small blue box.

I just bought a block of it today as PetSfart. It's called Bed-A-Beast and it was $4.99 for a block of about 2LBS. The Block advises that it expands to 7-8 liters of bedding. It also advises that it will fill a 40 gallon aquarium. It's distributed by a company called Pet-Tech Producs of Van Nuys, California.

excellent thread!! i also had the same trouble finding coco coir. i went to petsmart and saw that same exact bed-a-beast stuff but disregarded it cuz i didnt know if it would work. also thanks for pointing out petsmart sells oyster shells!
this website is great but the one problem with so many of the posts is that people dont credit where they buy their materials from. not everyone knows where obscure stuff like coco coir is found, so please say where its bought!!
