Computer Problem

Ok so my computer will turn off without warning. I have taken off my cover and my fans are working on my motherboard. But I think it might be my power supply over heating because the fans for it will not turn on. I tried to de-dust is with that duster spray but in about 10 minutes it just turns off. Any suggestions?

Get a new one?
Or if you're cheap, just replace the fan.

from my experience, power supplies are usually the first to go. Buy and replace would probably be best. Maybe the fucker even still has a warranty on it?!?

yeah no virus. When it shuts off if I try to turn it one real quick it will turn off again in like 10 seconds.

Most power supplies are crap. I bought a $80 power supply and I can tell that thing is quality just by the weight. I took one out of a compaq and that thing was so light and cheaply made.

If the power supplies out of warranty just take it out, open it up and clean all the crap out of it (make sure it's un-plugged first obviously ).
You'd be surprised how much dust builds up inside of those things!

It's probably your power supply. If you don't have a high end system and don't need lots of power even buying one of the cheaper Antecs, Enermax's, ect. will be alot better than a generic one.

Not sure how old your PC is, but there are a few things to look for when buying a new PSU.
New PC's use the 12v rail a lot more than old ones, yet some companies still use the 3.3 and 5v rails for most of the watts. If the the 12v rail is under 20 Amps, pass. In fact, some guides suggest the minimum at 24A, but you should be ok with 20 if you dont have a whole buncha hardcore parts. If the PSU has an efficiency rating, that would be great as well. If its a cheap 60% at higher temperatures, theres no point in getting it. A lower wattage PSU with 80%+ efficiency is more worth it.
Im sorta rushing so i cant get into details, just dont buy a 100$ PSU for a 400$ system, you probably dont need it. If you got a $1000 rig going, look to invest.

Generally Rune is right. But in my own experience I have to say if you have a high quality PSU under those recommendations you should be fine. I still have my 4 year old Antec PP-412X which is rated for 12V at 18A running fine with my newer AMD 3000+. I think company quality means alot more than general standards. Antec will be my first choice when I buy a new PSU

To tell you the truth, when i built my gf's rig (Athlon XP 2500+, 512mb, R9600pro OC'd, 2HDDs) i just went with the $50 case with PSU built in. I wasnt educated on PSU's 2 years ago. It's been running on 14A on the 12v. And as a matter of fact, i just found this out when i had to replace it a few days ago when it burnt out. Since its been running fine, i just bought a cheap 18A 450w PSU that Canada Computer had on sale for 25$. Yeah, its cheap, but its better than what she had, and if that ever burns out it'll be time for a new PC anyway.
Your 18A antec probably has a really good efficiency rating, so its no surprise you can run a 3000+ rig on it.
