Altitude vs. PC Time?

I'm at 5000', anyone else here at altitude? I've never had a problem following standard recommendations when it comes to the lengh of my pc times, but The Mushroom Cultivator says that at 5000' you'd need to increase PC psi to 20 to achieve the same effect as 15 psi at sea level. Any comments?

If you havnt had a problem I wouldnt worry about it, if you are pcing at 15 psi you should be fine, My first pc only went to 10 psi, and I didnt have problems with grains or cakes.

This is just basic chemistry. At 5000' the air pressure is lower than sea level. When you lower pressure, boiling tempatures also lower. The whole reason we use PC's is to increase the pressure so that the water inside will stay liquid at 250 F. When we say a PC is at 15 PSI, it's not really true. It's 15 PSI over the surrounding air pressure. So at 5000' you have to tack on an additional 5 PSI.

If problems crop up, simply increase the time. Don't try to modify your PC to get more pressure. I know a grower who lives at 9,000 feet, and he simply adds 1/2 hour to his cooking times. RR

I'm in the Mile High city and can tell you from many hours of PC experience that I have never had a problem. I PC everything at 15 PSI and certainly don't waste my time and efforts worrying about my altitude or how much pressure I'm losing because of it. My weight moves at 15 PSI and that's all that matters to me.
Quit worrying and start cultivating.

You'll have to check out the telluride festival then if you don't already. That's the 9,000 foot elevation buddy I was talking about. Telluride is some of the best wild edible mushroom picking I've ever seen, next to the pacific northwest. Mrs rabbit and I try to make it every second year, so hopefully, we'll be there this year again. RR

If you're aiming for a 90 minute run at 15psi for an elevation of 5000ft., you need to add an extra 15% to the total time to achive the same effect of sea level.
So, it's a 5% increase in time for every 1000ft. above 2000ft. So, 3000ft would need an extra 5% of time added. 4000ft would need an extra 10% added to the total time. And so on.

so by this math I need to PC at 15psi for 2h15min at 10,000 ft?
im currently doing 2hr but still dealing with some contams and trying to narrow down my issues.
