LOL...thx. On a more serious note though, you can see the plants are skinny and lanky, this was due to heat stress and me hanging the lamp too high to try and stop the damage. Still got 3oz+ from each plant in the end though.

Nah...had same prob as you, 600w light in small cuboard! I thought i could compensate with extra venting, obv not!!! This pic was taken at flowering week 4/5. They got MUCH bigger(5x+) buds by the end. Still, 10oz from three females is still a respectable harvest despite temps. as high as 35c!!!!! I deally lamps should be 40cm away from plant tops, but you can get away with 20cm near the end of flowering cycle if venting is good. In this pic lamp was almost 1m away, hence lanky plants!!!

coda: thanks for the awesome instructions for the carbon scrubber. basically a tub with 25lbs of carbon in it, a filter screen and a bunch of holes in the bottom? what do you need to get enough pull/pressure/whatever to pull the air through?
also, how much does 25lbs of carbon cost?

I'd imagine that you just need a ext actor fan attached to the hose that is made properly airtight. Ductape should do the trick. Not sure how much carbon costs, but the water filters i suggested are about ?5 for two but only about an oz in each one, but as this is activated carbon it should be more effective. At a guess i reckon that a pound would easily be enough. But this would need to be replaced every 3 months or so. Personally, i vent into the roof space, and this is linked indirectly to outside by air vents in the outer walls. There is only a faint smell of weed in my house even with 10 plants in full flower. If a cop were to come to my house then all he'd think was that I'd had a spliff in the last few day. And smoking in your own home isn't an arrestable offense in the UK any more (yay). Even if you were to smoke a spliff in front of a cop, if it was in your house they couldn't do a thing!! I'm still cautious though.

what do you mean by ''ext actor fan''?
also, my first grow this summer im likely going to go 250HPS in a cab, what kind of cooling would i need on the light, other than normal exhale fan/passive intake and a fan inside blowing around?

Sorry, i meant extractor fan. Heres a nice pic of one:- http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?cId=100593&ts=44316&id=71740 250w is ok but I'd go for 400-600w if i where you. You yield is based on the watts you put in (and other grow factors). But in general you get +/- 1g/watt if things go ok. Here a link to calculate you light vs area ratio. It will also tell you what harvest to expect. - http://www.sweetleaf.co.uk/lightarea.php (When it says- eg. 16oz a month. It means per month of flowering)
As for ventilation you need hot air sucked out from above the lamp, and cold air blown in at the bottom. Get a thermostat timer (expensive) or play around with a segmental timer till you get a day temperature of about 27oC and night temp of 15oC. Also use a oscillating fan inside at all times. This circulates the air and make the plants grow stronger. Gently bending the stems make them stronger and will stop them braking under the weight of the bud later! Thats all you should need. If temperatures soar during the summer, consider painting the shed roof white and/or insulating it. Also air coolers can be brought for $50+. Careful you don't get one that humidify's as well. This is bad!! Keep humidity low. A dehumidifier would be good. This will also give you reverse osmosis water (EC 0) which is a bonus.
Anything else?

Just another thought on this subject. Fill your scrubber with distilled water (available from motor shops - $2 a gallon) so the carbon doesn't waste its 'energy' absorbing the chlorine and shit from the water.

you use water in a carbon scrubber? weird... i never realized that when reading about them.
i don't know exactly what light i'm going to use, depends on the size of the cabinet i choose, but it sounds like 250Watts are easy to manage the heat, they're a small size... seems like a good beginner lamp. im growing for personal use only.
there's lots of little questions i have....sort of just piecing things together in my mind. right now i'm worried mostly about the cost, and the smell. i need a cabinet, a lamp, soil/fert/pots etc.., fans, carbon scrubber, seeds... am i missing anything?
basically going to have a cabinet of some sort in my room, i guess i really shouldn't have a problem.
