Weed Dr - For all your growing needs!!!

Well having been on this site for only a short while I have already found a few people that need dire help. Or the worst kind, people who are doing it wrong, but don't realise it! So in the intrest of keeping green ladys everywhere happy and healthy, please message this post. I have been growing indoors and outdoors for 12 years now, in South africa, holland and england. I will check messages as often as possible, but that may not be every day as i do have a life! But if i'm not on-line hopefully others will help too, and i shall give further help when I'm on. (Weed is my speciality but can help with other plants too.) Happy Growing!

Cool, dude, but I personally use the new digital ballasts, they can be replaced like for like with your old one and don't use as much elecy or suffer performance degradation over time. Cost 25% more though. But easily worth it! However, i would be interested in anyone who has experience in building homemade (effective) carbon filters. Maybe air could be bubbled through norite/water mix? Norite is the stuff you get in water filters btw. I reckon this would work well.

yea soz, like i said never made homemade filter before but from what i know of the processes involved the cheapest way to make one that is effective would be:- either get water filter (brita etc)and attach it to your extraction hose, or force your extracted air through a water and norite mix (break open the water filter cartridge and collect the black grains, 1 or 2 should do. Replace every 2-4 months) and attach seperate hose to container which then exits grow space. All this needs to be air tight to work. Is that ok? I can draw you a picture next time i have access to gf's scanner.

I wouldn't know about homemade ballasts im afraid, but i feel getting it wrong would be disasterous so wouldn't recomend it.

Norite is basicly activated charcoal(carbon) and will bond with impuritys in air and water. You may be able to get it pure but best(ie. cheapest/easiest) source is water filter cartriges.

hey, there's an article in last months high times on how to build your own carbon scrubber.
You will need:
5 gallon bucket tub of sillicon sealant Electric drill with 4 inch hole bit 1/8 inch drill bit 4 inch dryer hose 4 inch dryer hose flange HEPA filter cartridge 25 lbs of activated carbon
Using the bottom of the bucket as a template, draw a circle on the hepa filter cartridge and cut this out. Place that circle in the bottom of the bucket. Using the 4 inch drill bit cut a hole on the center of the bucket lid, make sure the dryer flange fits snug in this hole. Place beads of caulking around the flange and press it in til you have a nice seal. Flip the bucket over and use the 1.8 inch bit to drill random holes (this is where the clean air will come out) make sure the filter is out before you drill these holes. Once the bottom is finished put the filter back in, dump in your charcoal, then place lid on the bucket.
Voila! Home made carbon scrubber.

yea this sounds more efficient than my suggestion, though indubitably more expensive. Still recommend professional gear if you can afford it. But then for their first crop most people can't.

Sorry it's taken me awhile to get back to you, right, really i need a full disription of your current space. But i will suggest a few things that may help. First you need nighttime temp 12-18c day time 24-30c, low humidity during flowering is important too (havle watering). Then you need at least two(quiet) 80m3/hr extractor fans, one sucking cold air in the bottom and another venting it into the ceiling space, also 1 large or 2 small oscilating fans to circulate air (this also make the plants strong, as does regular bending)

thats it, literally a closet in my unused bedroom. I have no access to an attic, pipes, or a window thats not inconspicuous. It's pretty much useless since i can modify it, i had a bunch of fans trying to move the air around, and i fucked around with the squirrel cage fan to see if i could move the hot air out of the room. Nothing i tried cooled the room below 80 degree's, to top it off i wasnt running the heat in my house and it made living a bit miserable (especially waking up in the morning). Once i turned the heat on in the house the room shot up to 90.
So, today, i moved the plants from the spare room to my bedroom. Its cooler in there, and less stuffy, right now i have them chilling at 73 degrees.
I think pretty much im going to need to construct my own cabinet or room, i cant think of anything else. The only problem is im having a hard time finding solid directions on building one, all the articles i come across dont come with detailed instructions. Just an overview, a pic, and a parts list.

closets are difficult to grow in because of heat. (and too much heat can be dangerous too, fires are not fun to experience)

Right dude, i followed the same path as you for my most recent grow, cu board to room, luckily i have it right now, so i shall share what i know. I assume that thats a single 600w air cooled light? If so the biggest space you'll need is about 3m2 less than 1m2 will cause you problems, but i guess you figured that one! What i have done is built a fake wall in my bedroom. My room was 2.6m x 5m I sliced off the far end of the room (upto the window). This area is 1m x 2.6m. And contains a double plug socket, v useful. The wall itself was built out of 2x2" stud timber. First build a frame going around the walls, floor and ceiling. Next you need to plan where you want the secret door. Mine is 6" in from the left side. The seams are concealed with wallpaper, so the door had to be a few mm smaller than the width of the wallpaper (53cm). So i put in two uprights 52.7cm apart. Then a horizontal between them about 1.5m up from floor. Now I use a hydroponic set up so i shall tell you how to do that too (easily worth it as plants can survive in this set up for upto 2 weeks with no maintain ace whatsoever. You need to start planning your hydro set up now as you may not be able to alter it after this point. First you need a reservoir, it needs to be a low as possible (you'll see why soon) but also hold at least 10 gallons of water. The reservoir goes on the far left of the room. Then you need a platform on which the plants can rest (must be strong enough to take your weight and the plants), i use an old door. This door needs to be made into a platform above the reservoir, but needs to be at an angle (at least 3cm/m) so that the water thats fed to the plants can run off down the door back into the reservoir over the lip of the door. (i shall get gf's digi cam next time, but for now just ask if any of this is unclear). right next you can Finish the wall. I used plaster board to cover the wall, so i put a horizontal beam at the same height as the width of the board (120cm) and then a few uprights for strength. Next build a frame that fits inside secret door space. make it strong using corner pieces attachments (T and L junction pieces are useful through out this whole building process). Then you need a hinge for the door. Get a 16mm wood hole borer and about 4-6" down from the top of the door drill holes through vertical beam of wall and door on both sides. This is so you can fix a 15mm copper pipe through this hole that acts like a hinge. (comprehende?) Next fix plaster board as neatly as possible to out side of wall and door. Plaster and smooth all gaps and edges. Now you have a secret room. ( You can doubly hide the entrance with cleverly constructed shelving unit or something) now inside, insulate and seal wall. Then paint white. Put a covering of pond rubber or other strong plastic on the door(platform) and a few inch's up the walls, make it flat as possible so no water collects and all drains smoothly into the reservoir. Under the reservoir have some venting hose contacted to a hole(You can hide this with a wall vent fitting) in the bottom middle of the wall, attached to a quiet extractor fan, sucking in cold air to the bottom of the room, cent hot air through extractor in the ceiling. Be as neat as possible at all stages. Build shelves to hold ballasts, fans etc. Then stretch a wire as tight as possible from across the top of the room between 2 hooks, you can hang your light from this. then u need a water pump (needs to be strong enough to reach the height you need, mine is a 1000ltr/hour one) and some 15mm plastic tube. The pump in the reservoir and the piping is attached to it and goes around the wall above the height of the plant pots. From this tube you can attach smaller tubes, as many as you have plants to feed them water. Attach drippers to these tubes. Then cover the walls with Mylar or dull-side-outward aluminium foil.
There you go, its a grow room!!!
Hope this helps will get pics for you soon. In the mean time ask if your not sure about something.
