first off, i am very new to this, so bear with me. i inoculated three jars a few weeks ago, two of them seem a bit on the wet side, one seems just right. the two that are wet, nothing is growing... will it ever grow? the one that is fine, mycellum is growing, but only on one side of the jar. the first two, i used 1cc of solution, and 2cc's on the last one. shouldn't the last one have mycellum growing on all sides? any help/reassurance would be appreciated. thanks.

No, they will not grow. You did one of two things wrong on them, You added too much liquides or you did not PC them long enough. I have had the same problem and fixed it with PC'ing longer.

After three weeks, you should definately see something happening! It's hard to say what went wrong, but what temperature are you keeping the jars at? You want it close to 80? F, but under 85? F. Too high of temp can kill it. Too low will retard growth. Not sure what effect excessive moisture might have, but I'm sure the experts will chime in soon. FWIW, some of my last cakes showed nothing at some inoculation points, while other points had normal growth - all from the same syringe. I think this might be because I forgot to shake the syringe a coupla times. Regardless, I saw growth after three days, and you should've too. If you have to start over, just make sure you follow whatever tek you're using to the letter. Good luck!

the wet jars are being kept at around 75-80 degrees. you're right, i added too much water. the tek that i was using for those two (it's a brf/verm tek by the way) said to saturate the verm with water until it can't hold any more, then add brf. i just followed the pf tek exactly for the last one, except i used 2cc's of solution to speed up the colonization process. the one that is colonizing is being kept at 83 degrees on top of my water heater. i'd keep the wet ones with it, but i'm going on a trip (a real one on a train) soon, and i read that if they do colonize, it will take longer. the one that is colonizing seems to be doing great on the side that is growing, i was just wondering if it would start on the other side, or if the growth would have to wrap around the jar. i may not even try the brf tek's next time. i just got some rye berries and i may try to get them going since everyone agrees that they do better. thanks for the advice. i'll be more careful next time.
