Hey Doomie. I used to live down in Hemet and I found thats it pretty hard to find Psilocybe in your area. However the luck I did have was had at Dairy's. Liberty Caps and Cube's in poo and in old poo'd fields. I did have great sucsses in chino, since there are so many dairy's there. Go look in the poo! They are around Peace!

Alot of people have claimed to find California cubes, but never any pictures. Libs in Northern Cali, remote possibility (I think I once saw a single specimen posted here), but certainly not in southern California.
mxtoker -
The only active you will find in your area is Panaeolus subbalteatus. I think they might even be in season for you now. There is a load of info about this species on the Shroomery.

i found a single lib in a long time of hunting, didnt have a pic then, but it was for sure a lib, and it was in a misty field in felton, CA. which was also inhabited by a few horses. ive also had friends who would go picking up at UCSC, and come back with fresh cubensis.

There are always going to be anomalies? a basic rule of nature. I wouldn?t assume something is impossible simply because no one has posted a picture on this web page. The Shroomery rocks, but certainly can?t be expected to have all the information totally wrapped up. Of course you are unlikely to find palm trees in the arctic but under the right circumstances anything is possible. It doesn?t take such a leap of faith to imagine a situation whereby a culture of cubensis could find a home in a California pasture? maybe not a permanent tenure but long enough to be encountered. Think about all the livestock being shipped in from locations all across the united states? the world even. Life forms often tend to be invasive? examine the grasses in your favorite cube fields (or anywhere else for that matter) and I bet you are going to find species that would have been limited to regions far detached from their current locations. Just a thought. georgem

yes but just because they could possibly grow here by some random occurance doesnt mean that all of us here in cali should head out to the pastures.
Its just not the place to look here.

i think your best bet would be pan subs in socal, i really dont know about cubes even though theres ridiculous amounts of cow fields in cali, and im suprised i havnt heard about finding cubes at UCSC because theres a cow field right at the entrace of campus and i see kids walking along the fence all the time, i would have though if cubes were found there more kids would know. and this is the schools that claims there mascott is hallucengenic...

Their range extended from the CALIFORNIA border north into British Columbia, from the ocean east to the crest of the coastal mountains.
John W. Allen, Jochen Gartz and Gaston Guzman say in: Mapping the Mycelial Network : A North American Distribution of Psychoactive Fungi The following article presents a detailed listing of the various species of mushrooms which can be found from state to state in both the United States and from most provinces in Canada.
CALIFORNIA (SAN FRANSISCO to Oregon)
17. Psilocybe semilanceata Fr.) Kummer.

I question the cubes aside from the man made efforts to propogate them in one form or another.

SoCal doesn't really have any of the right places to be looking. The farther north you go the more likely you are to find some, due to more open spaces and farmland.
Hahaha, I could see a UCSC student with a spray bottle full of spores. Kids at UCB are always going into the city near GGP and looking for cyans..although I've never seen them the folks at Hippie Hill swear they're there
