Don't think this has been asked before
    #5396595 - 03/13/06 08:45 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

I'll be moving to a new place in 3 weeks.

I have everything I need now to start my jars. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and start them now. Is it safe to move them while they are in the colonization process?

I don't have my grow chamber ready yet. Just everything else. The reason I want to start now is because where I'm moving, it will be very hard for me to have my privacy in the kitchen area as long as I need in order to prepare my jars. Here I have privacy.

Once I'm already moved into my new place, setting up the growing chamber and everything else that follows won't be a problem.

So my question again. Is it safe to transport my jars while they are in the colonization process. I'm only moving 30 miles away.

Yeah, it's perfectly safe.

Cool, thanks hun. Are you sure that the change in temp won't cause any damage to the growth?

Welcome, and yes, as long as the change isn't drastic. It would take freezing temps or high heat (100F+) to affect your grow during transportation.

yo Des!

here's my $0.02...
if you got the safe space and time to make your jars where you're at, then do it now and PC them immediately after.
PC them with masking tape over the inoculation holes and leave the tape ON after you take em out the PC. jars/cakes can keep like this for a VERY long time.
you MAY hold off on inoculating them, but no reason to really.
if you nocc em up before the move, make sure you cover the inoc holes with micropore tape. also, it helps to put a coffee filter (wrap w/ a rubber band) over the whole lid afterwards. extra dust cover, ya know...

another piece of advice...
i've always had a HOUSE, but i moved into an apartment over the summer... so now stealth is more of a concern.
if at all possible (depending on your sleep/work schedule) it's best to do kitchen work nocturnally!!! many would agree, i'm sure.
like a ninja, use the dark/shadows!!!

also, if you're making straight half pint PF jars... lemme drop my (amended) PF cake recipe on you...

per jar:
-1/4 cup BRF (bagged BRF is good, but grinding yer own organic BRF is better)
-1/2 cup CHUNKY (extra coarse/horticultural grade) Vermiculite
-1 tsp. Flaxseed Meal (shitload of extra nutes!!!)
-55 cc's of Spring water
+ use the chunky verm in the cake mix, and use the fine verm as the top verm layer. the chunky is better in the substrate, but the fine stuff makes a better top dressing/filter.

nothing new... but seriously, the flaxseed meal works wonders!

G/L lady!

btw, ima PM you in a bit...

I don't like the idead of tape. Kinda sticky. I didn't use it in my first grow. I just used an extra lid made of foil. Worked great.

I suppose I could try the tape on half of the jars. Where can I find flaxseed meal?

check local health food stores, or natural food stores, those types of shops will carry most of the grains you'd want for jars.
