Casing "Dunk" + Small Mushies

I know about dunking cakes, and in one topic I read after the first flush of a casing to add water under the casing to make it float. Then to drain the water off after 2-3 hours.
Now should I wait longer? Because I got a real good pin-set, however the mushies were TINY
Like literally an inch. __ / \ |_ _| | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Like that size exactly.
My cakes did not flush at all when I birthed them either so I figured that the substrate was incredibly dry. Dunked the cakes and got a few pins but nothing spectacular.
So my question is was my casing that dry or is it the light or even the RH? RH fluctuates from 80 to 50 and when it drops I just do a light misting to raise it back to 80+ I have a white opaque trash bag as a cover for my FC will that (I read on a topic that diffused light "confuses the mushrooms" (But I think thats BS since mushrooms don't utilize light that much))
So IYO = IN YOUR OPINION (LOL) Which one do you think caused my Micro Mushrooms
*Light *Substrate moisture *RH

All of these factor into size of fruits, as does substrate/casing depth and FAE among others. 1. Use damp perlite in the bottom of your FC to increase/stabilize RH. Perlite along with regular mistings can easily get your RH where it needs to be.
2. Lengthen your dunk time to at least 12 hours, preferrably 24 to maximize water absorbsion.
3. Ditch the trash bag and rig some type of clear lid to maximize light exposure or a small light on a timer. This will also help maintain a good RH level, and make it easier to mist/fan your casings.
4. Shallow substrate depth is usually the culprit when it comes to small carpophores. I personally never go shallower than 3", and try to stay around 5-6". This depth usually get me 12" fruits, especially on later flushes. Your later flushes will also probably produce larger shrooms. Good luck.

Ahhhhhhhh..... thats my problem. My substrate layer was way to shallow.
I had about 1/4 to 1/3 inch of substrate and about 1/2 an inch of casing.
Ok lesson learned. Next casing I do in a few days will have a thick ass subsrate layer, and I will dunk my cake first.
Cool thanks for the advice!
