Does anyone know of any herb or plant, or all natural derivitive that acts as a decently strong muscle relaxer. i have some pretty severe back spasms (after a serious accident over a year ago). and i really dont like taking the SOMA's that the doctor prescibed for me. they tend to upset my stomach alot. and flexiril doesnt really do the trick unless in a high dose and then it also upsets my stomach. any idea anyone?

I take Ibuprofen 800mg twice a day.. I smoke at least 2 to 3 Grams of MJ a day. And I rub down with Tiger Balm as necessary..
About 6 years ago I was standing on the top rack in the Electrical Dept. at the Home Depot I worked at . I had a 700 lb pound roll of 1/0 copper service wire about ready to fall and we were trying to snag it with a forklift and a chain.. The roll shifted as I had both my hands holding it. It jerked me so hard it twisted me and shifted my spine.. I have never been nor will I ever be the same.. I hate to here of your pain and I hope you find some relief..

I have great pain releif effects from Kratom. Brew tea and mix with alcohol and it'll keep for ages in your fridge. It has a mix of opium and coke type effects. Wash it down followed by a few spliff's should do the trick. Depending on how bad your pain is you may want to get 25x Kratom. All the best

Valerian Root would be a good choice for you, I say its very relaxing and like the effects it produces. Puts me to sleep nicely as well.
It may not be as strong as you would like to cure your back pain, but I would say it is deffinitly worth trying/checking out.

Be careful about how much and for how long you use ibuprofen.
Pharmacist sounds ibuprofen warning February 6, 2006 - 12:04AM AdvertisementAdvertisement
Ibuprofen should be pulled from supermarket shelves and made available only through pharmacies, an Australian researcher says.
Pharmacist Gregory Peterson, of the University of Tasmania, said the Therapeutic Goods Administration's decision to allow grocery sale of ibuprofen in 2003 was flawed and should be overturned based on new research which had emerged since then.
Professor Peterson, of the university's Unit for Medication Outcomes Research and Education, said studies linking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pain relievers such as ibuprofen to an increased risk of miscarriage, gastrointestinal problems, heart attacks and asthma flare-ups put the TGA's decision in a different light.
"When you add up all the people for whom ibuprofen may not be suitable - for example, those with asthma, gastric ulcer, pregnancy, cardiac disease - it means ibuprofen may not be suitable for one in five adult Australians," Prof Peterson wrote in this month's edition of the Australian Journal of Pharmacy.
"The ibuprofen manufacturers and self-medication advocates argue that all these warnings appear on the pack. They point out - rightly - that ibuprofen has a positive safety profile when used as directed in patients without contraindications.
"What they often neglect to say, however, is that the consumer surveys conducted by the manufacturers themselves show that 20 per cent of Australians are not likely to read the label on over-the-counter pain relievers when using a brand for the first time."
Prof Peterson, who stressed he had no association with manufacturers of analgesics, said the ready availability of ibuprofen, commonly sold as Nurofen, placed the weakest people at greatest risk.
"These are the consumers from low sociodemographic areas, the elderly, others taking multiple medications, and the poorly educated and sometimes illiterate individuals who are incapable of safely self-medicating from supermarket shelves," he said.
"Over-the-counter medicines are often perceived as safe by the consumer because they are freely available for self-selection.
"Their ready availability in supermarkets simply reinforces the misguided perception that these drugs are innocuous.
"How many miscarriages, asthma attacks, ulcers and heart problems caused by inappropriate ibuprofen use need to occur before the product is returned to its rightful place in a pharmacy - where prompts to consumers about suitability can be made by pharmacy staff."
Gastroenterologist Terry Bolin, of the Gut Foundation, said Prof Peterson had presented a "balanced view".
"The problem with supermarkets is that there is no advice given when you buy ibuprofen as to whether you are at risk or not," Associate Professor Bolin said in an interview.
Pharmacist Geraldine Moses, who runs the Adverse Medicine Events Line, said she had received no reports of problems with people taking ibuprofen purchased in a supermarket for occasional use.
"There's no evidence that there's a major problem," she said.
Dr Moses said if ibuprofen was removed from supermarket shelves then so should aspirin and paracetamol.
"I'm very uncomfortable with paracetamol still being in supermarkets, given that everybody knows that a big dose will kill you," she said.

Might want to look into pedicularis densiflora. I don't have serious back pain, but my back was pretty sore awhile back and I tried some pedicularis and it did the trick. Didn't work quite as well as vicodin but it got the job done without doping me up.

I second the Valerian root, you may need to try several different brands to find the one that works for you, Spring Valley seems to be the most effective for me.
Arnica Montana, you can get both a topical oil and 25-40x sublinguals in some health-food stores.
5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) from Griffonia seeds are a help for many.
For awhile Iporuru 25x and Canadian Lousewort were being toted as pain-relievers, I tried them both a few times and didn't notice much beyond placebo, but they still deserve some investigation.
Kratom can become severely habit-forming, not to mention that it can leave you more wiped out than your cyclobenzaprines. Advil/ibuprophen/OTC-NSAIDS should be a last resort. Ginger will ease your stomach, but in no way should anyone stay on flexerils for an extended period of time.
For supplements, Magnesium is worth looking into - it slows firing of nerves. Lecithan rebuilds tissue, and Hyaluronic Acic is great for joints.
Just be careful whatever it is that you're adding to your diet, both so you know what is doing what and also to avoid any interactions. 5-HTP and MAOIs are an obvious big no-no.
I'm sure you're already in physical therapy and doing a lot stretching, exercise, meditation, etc. but never underestimate the powers of green tea and oatmeal

Weed, Poppy, even Torch can relax the musculoskeletal system. Warm baths are probably the easiest and most natural thing.

Whenever I took DXM with even a headache, I tripped balls, but all I could seem to do was focus on my headache. It was like I had a real clear, weightless head, with this throbing pain comeing from nowhere. I don't think that would be a good idea for back pain.

Ah man you need to grow some really bomb indica weed for the rest of your life. Sorry about the stomach pain. I am bipolar and go nuts if I don't take my meds, which give me constipation like no other. Maybe that valerian root will work, maybe it will just make you tired. You can try getting vicoden from your doctor instead. If you can't get it from your doctor, you can get it from friends lol. I used to have this job where I would pull my lower back and lock it up. The only natural way I would find relief would be to belly dance. Lol sounds crazy, but it is the only way to make your lower back feel better. Try it out, just move your stomach back and forth. It really moves your back and feels great.
Hope you feel better =)

Try using a heating pad on your spasming muscles. Use it on low for 10 or 15 minutes at a time once or twice a day. It helps a lot.
