Shredding straw

I am about to find myself shredding a large amount of straw and have a good idea about how to to accomplish this, but I wanted to run it by y'all and see what you think.
I'm planning on 5 cu ft of substrate mixing 50/50 with Hpoo and straw, so there's 2.5 cu ft of straw to shred. I figure a little over a bale.
I grab me something like this:

I put a tote under it to catch the shredded straw. I may have to wrap the bottom with some plastic sheeting to keep the shredded straw from blowing away.
I plan to run all the straw through once and then feed through again with the Hpoo. This will reduce the straw size even further along with breaking up and mixing in the HPoo.
This little gem will run me about $200.00 delivered to my door. Is it worth it guys? What are you doing?
If this is the way to go I do have one more question.
Should I pre-soak the straw, or hydrate all at once? I am afraid it will be like trying to mow wet grass and will all clump together.

If you have well weathered h/poo. Screw adding straw BTW, baled straw will just plug that shredder. I know, I own one like it.
But, it will do a great job on dry h/poo.

Lay it out flat and run a mower over it! (Not a flymo tho!) Just one little piece of wisdom I picked up from the HC (Come back soon...).

I wouldn't spend 200 on something to shred straw. I use those big branch cutters (look like big ass scissors) to shred mine

A $50 weed eater stuck into a plastic barrel or rubbermaid tote will work wonders too. RR

If you already have a power trimmer for working in your yard...
they work nice on a bail of straw.

I prefer to use aged horse poo and not have to work with straw though.

I had thought about one of those Roadkill, but got on the shredder kick.
How do you use one of those? Cut the straw off the bale with it while shredding it, kinda like sawing wood. Or, do you cut the strings and shred the loose straw with it.
I'm understanding 100% poo is the way to go but I got these bales outside right now. I kinda want to use them here at first and when they are gone go pure sh*t.

I used to cut the straw right off the bail... sticking the bail up on a couple saw horses...then going to town on it.
I hated working with straw...and don't anymore.
aged horse poo is much easier...no straw work.

Alright, you put a pic of a big 'ol gas one up, do think I will encounter any problems with an electric one? Should I look for a certain amp model, ie. heavy duty? Well I think I answered my own question, hells yeah I want to go with the heavy duty one!

I don't know...
my point was that you might have something laying around at home already that you can use.
I already had the gas trimmer.
Buy what you can afford...and what will do the job at hand.
Tim always goes for the EXTRA HEAVY DUTY...on Tool Time.
Your not cutting off limbs from hedges...its straw.
I'm sure that most models would work.
