If you are growing with wieght in mind. let them mature alittle longer so they are at their largest. I think they look better right as the viel breaks but NO ONE has made clear if either option as different potency.
with that said. I would pick the bigger ones now, wait a day maybe less..or more, and pick the ones that are small now. because they will grow to around the size of the bigger ones you have.

really depends on what you prefer.
I like to harvest mine before the veil tears if I'm just growing for fruit. They look better to me that way.
If I'm taking spore prints I wait til the cap flattens out. Then make prints.

and with style and grace RK answers that question for the millionth time, lol.......
I'm one that likes the see the fully developed fruit, so i let them flatten out a good bit but always keep a close eye on them at this point to avoid sporulation all over the casings as well as keep spores from blowing into other casings.
the big misconceptions are twisted up in potency IMO....i have sampled them both ways on several occasions and notice no difference between the two as far as potency goes. granted this is not a true way of determining active ingredient %'s but feel that the difference is so minuscule that it just doesn't matter either way for potency. this is my opinion remember and we all have one......
back to the question at hand, i would pick them immediately...

i try to pick before the viel breaks because they dont break up as much in storage like the caps stay in tact... also they look nicer dried before the viels break hahaha
Actually when you let them grow on and they get heavier, i think when you dry them they kind of end up the same wieght as if i dried them before the viel broke, as in theres just more water content in mature ones... is this just in my head
