Well, my friend is just about to put his casing into a custom built terrarium (all my questions are at the end). Here's the specs:
Terrarium itself measures 28"x19", it's just a big rubbermaid container.
A sheet of 1/8" plexiglass rests on the top (I'm pretty sure it's air tight, but I could be wrong).
The casing container is 19"x13"x5" It will sit inside the terrarium, unerneath a drip shield piec of plexiglass that's 1/4" thick.
My friend is using a cool humidifier that's outside (a hose runs from it into the terrarium, on top of the drip shield).
My friend noticed that, when he set everything up and turned on the humidifier for a few minutes, the terrarium filled with what looked like fog. Then, a few minutes later the fog had dissappeared.
Should the fog dissappear like this, or does it mean that the container isn't air tight (my friend saw no humiditiy leaving the terrarium while he watched it)?
Also, how long should the humidifier remain on each day to keep humidity adequate?
Should the entire thing be sprayed with lysol prior to placing the casing in?
How often should air be replaced inside the terrarium, and is fanning ok?
My friend plans on casing tonight, so answers are very much needed.
Thanks alot for your help.

I can tell you this much, if you're doing casings (specially in rubbermaid containers), you dont need a humidifier.
It will provide too much humidity, as a casing only needs 85-92% humidity after pins form. This can be provided with a simple little jar of perlite with water.
You just gotta fan it a couple times a day and you'll be alright.
A casing itself provides the environment mushrooms need to grow.
Most important is just to keep the moisture content of the casing optimal.

Crap, I don't have any perlite. So, should I just scratch the idea of using the humidifier, even off and on?
If I don't use a humidifier, could I just spray the casing with a spray bottle a few time a day?

Why don't you make a fake casing (just verm, or coir or whatever you are using), set up the terrerium like it will be. Get the "casing" to the right moisture level, and test the terrerium with your humidity gauge.
Air should be exchange once an hour, but get by with what you have to. A couple of times a day might be enough.

PM me with any cultivation questions.
I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

Well, I was thinking of fanning it out three times a day. However, if I raised the casing up a bit, say 5 inches, that should keep it out of the CO2 a bit longer (since CO2 will collect at the bottom of the terrarium). Would that help at all?
