cobwebs...
    #5394117 - 03/13/06 01:01 AM (17 years, 10 months ago)

I thought my little growing project was doing well until my 2nd batch of PF jars all turned up like this:

I'm pretty sure it's cobweb mold but figured posting a pic online wouldn't hurt. The mycelium of one of my healthy-looking cubensis cultures looks like this:

The ones that look like they have cobweb are not growing rampantly as cobweb is supposed to. However, they definitely don't show the same bright white mycelium as the first batch did. If anybody knows what I can do next time (spend the $ and buy a PC?) to fix this problem I would appreciate it.

BEHOLD! Muahaha
Another contam pic to identify:

The pics are a little fuzzy but that first pic doesnt look like cobweb, somtimes when mycelium is thin and cottony with the substrate behind it can look a little like cobweb, give it some time it may look totally different in a few days

And the bottom pic looks like a bacteria contam, its also located at your inoculation point, that means the contam was on the end of your needle when you injected..

You'll have to take in focus pictures to get any help. Set the jar down, then set the camera on a book if you don't have a tripod. There is no way to hold a jar still enough in one hand while holding a camera still enough in the other hand to get a clear picture.

cobwebs...maybe not so [Re: RogerRabbit]
    #5401071 - 03/14/06 09:11 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

Sorry I couldn't get a better camera shot...my cellphone camera and light sources kinda suck. Anyways things are looking up...the mycelium is getting thicker, a little brighter (in most of em), and "ropy", so I'm just gonna wait it out. The myc is growing nicely, not extremely fast or slow. After all, I did follow all of the directions of the PF tek to the letter.

I'm still curious about the type of contam in the last pic for my grow journal. It's only in 1 of my jars and stinks horribly now.
