HELP, DAMP RID

I made a chamber for damp rid from an old mini fridge. Anyway, at the bottom of the fridge I have a container full of wholes to drip the excess fluid. Then I have styrofoam planks on that container, and on those planks is a fan, which points towards the mushes. The mushies or on a mesh rack at the top.
Anyway, I opened the fridge and it is fucking hot in that bitch. Like HOT. Well, not that hot, but pretty fucking warm. Is this supposed to happen?

Im not sure why it would be hot in there, most people use a food dehydrator that runs around 100 degrees, if anything it will help them dry faster...

Well, my question is: Is there a exothermic reaction which releases energy (heat) when the Damp Rid reacts with O2 and the water vapor in the air?

Dunno, but it could be the fan motor in an enclosed area that is generating the heat. Is the fan drawing in fresh air?

Ive used damp rid extensivly and only recently bought a dehydrator, I never noticed heat, Im no chemist but I would have to say no...

I cracked open the top of the fridge to let fresh air in.
Should I just take out the fan and leave the damp rid in and just shut the fridge, air tight for 3 days?

Why is a little heat a bad thing? It will only speed up the drying process. I've got a small computer fan running 24/7 in a small "Sterilite" tub full of Damprid at 78 deg F. No problems. This is from experience, and reading other's accounts. Example: Will low heat affect potency? Answer=No (Clickety-Click) Thanks, Holydiver. Good luck, downforshrooms. Knowledge is power.

Well, I am not worrying about heat. I just wanna know if the reaction creates heat?

You want to use the damp rid after the mushrooms are fan dried. I would remove the damp rid, leave mushrooms in there and sit the fan so it's blowing fresh air into the fridge. Once they're pretty dry, seal them up with the damp rid.

Dessicants won't work right if both your desiccant and mushrooms are exposed to fresh air all the time. They take the moisture out of the air. If you are constantly supplying fresh 'moist' air, your mushrooms aren't going to dry very fast and may rot. The desiccant and mushrooms must be in a sealed container for optimum efficiency.
Why you have heat? Pft I dunno..

Well, to answer your question, downforpot, yes an exothermic chemical reaction occurs when some dessicants soak up water. Commercially, Calcium Hydroxide is used in concrete mixtures, when ambient temp is low, to keep the heat up during hydration. A teaspoon of Calcium Hydroxide will melt a styrofoam cup when a spoon full of water is added.
As for the reason for your heat increase, it's most likely the fan motor. Just soaking humidity out of a small, contained, atmosphere and a batch of mush should not produce significant heat.
