I have a dishwasher that has a Sanitize" function. It guarantees a 99.99% sterility rate. Could this be used as a PC substitute?

no, the pressure from the PC raises the boiling temp of water, and a dishwasher would fling water everywhere, including the inside of your jars. There is no PC substitute, save the cash go down to wal mart and get yourself a $40.00 mirro, those are great to start off with.

When sanitizing, the water isn't being "flinged", but rather heated. The ultimate goal of the PCing is to rid of contams. Why wouldn't the dishwasher work?

probalby wouldnt get near hot enough. When water is under pressure, it's boiling point gets raised, so PC's get a lot hotter.
Definitly just got to wal-mart and buy a Mirro for 40 bucks. Its what I did and it works great.

your dishwasher is not going to run long enough at high temps to penetrate to the middle fully and destroy all the spores and bacteria.
you would also have to use sealed jars, no holes in the lids. as i'm sure the water pressure would remove any foil or tapes allowing water to enter your jars making them totally useless...

Get one that will hold at LEAST 5 quart jars. (you will not regret doing so)

I'll second that. Mine only holds 3 quart jars, and its kind of a pain in the ass doing 12 in one day. I wish i'd spent more and gotten a bigger one, but it works for me

if you are doing pf jars you can boil them in a pot. this steams them but you never get that 15 pounds pressure. this does work for some people but its just not nearly as effective as a pc and for 40 bucks get the damn pc. unless you have more to spend then go for a bigger one.

I understand that, I just wondered if it would work with jars. It is perfect for spawn bags, though.

I dont trust my dishwasher to actualy clean my dishes, I certainly wouldnt use it for sanitizing/sterilizing anything, that function only covers spores and bacteria on the surface

I find it really hard to believe that this conversation is till going.
The mere thought of using a dishwasher to sterilize a jar, bag or any other substrate container is completely asinine.
