Questions about making a Mono Tub

Ok I want to start my first hpoo grow and I need to figure out how deep I want my substrate layer to be in the mono tub im making. Its a sterlite 20 qt tub but its only 9" tall 13.5" long and 8.5" wide. Im not sure if this tub is big enough for a mono tub either. Also do I have to use polyfill in the 6 holes like it says in ohmatic's orginal design or can I use tyvek over these holes? And if I decide to do about a 2.5" substrate layer should I just use about a 3/4" casing layer? And will I need to incubate the mono tub after I mix the spawn into the hpoo or will the poo create enough heat for itself?

stick with my design, use polyfill, sub depth and casing layer sounds fine, no need to incuate it - roomtemp does the job. peace ohm

Ok and how tall is your rubbermaid becuase mine is only 9" and if I have a bout 3" or so taken away from that then I will only have 6" of headroom for the mushies will this be aight? And if I have 5Lbs of hpoo how many times will I be able to fill my tub up I was thinking maybe twice?

mushies conform to whatever space you give em. theres pictures kicking around of mushies growing in a jar all mangled and contorted to the lack of space.

I'd avoid the Tyvek. Polyfill works fine. I use micropore tape to cover my holes in monotubs. $1.77 at Wal-M**T. Just tape over the holes inside and out.
3/4" casing layer is too deep for a 2.5" substrate depth. Personally, I never go deeper than 1/2", and would go closer to 3/8" for such a shallow sub.

Wow I might just have to try that tape out thanks for the suggestions. So it will be ok with a 9" Height 20 Qt tub right? And for the 6 holes with the tape over it these should be about 3/4" inch diameter?
