Tips on Jobhunting?
    #5390174 - 03/11/06 07:31 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

I've been out of work for way too long, trying to find a job. I'm in college, and need part time work that can accommodate my schedule, and is either within walking distance of my home, or near a bus stup.

I'm having a lot of trouble actually getting the interest of employers. I fill out applications, submit them, and am never contacted. Even if I was called into an interview, I really have no idea how to do well on one.

I've had one previous job, and I don't remember the dates that I started and stopped working there. And I'm sure my uncle doesn't remember either (he was the owner/manager).

Can anyone give a lad some advice?

ah memorable job interview fuckups..
"so, where do you see yourself in ten years?"

/don't say doin' your wife, don't say doin your wife, don't say doin your wife/

"doin your....(looks at family picture) son?"

interviewer: so if you had to choose between being wind, fire, earth, or water which would you be?
you:id have to say wind
interviewer: why?
you: cause ill blow you for a promotion.

no really we all get asked silly questions that seem to not really matter but heres a keeper. if they ever ask you what animal you would want to be. you could say wolf because they are both independant and work in packs.

good luck

The thing about cleavage is that it requires boobs. I don't think showing off my package with tight pants would help all too much either

on a more serious note. do you know anybody at any jobs that you would consider that has some sort of a good title? you can also pick up the phone book and start calling places. but of course the most important thing is a good resume.

I'm not even at the kind of level where I have a resume. I'm applying for entry level work. Minimum wage stuff.

If there were any chemistry field jobs in this area I'd flesh out a resume and apply for them... but there aren't. There is no work in chemistry here, so I'm looking for shitty part time jobs.

I have an application to turn in for In-N-Out burger. Sure, it's food service, but their starting wage is about $9 an hour, and I'd have benefits. In-N-Out is the holy grail of food industry employment in this area.

Call them. Ask if your application has been reviewed and tell them you are interested in a interview.Keep calling them. That's how I got half my jobs. Some employers won't even call you if they aren't in desperate need, they want to see who really wants the job.

That's definitely something I'm going to try this time. Turn in application, wait about a week... call and ask.

I'm determined to be active in trying to find work. I was lazy before and only did what happened to come along. That was dumb.

Here is my tips; if they ask stupid questions of course the job sucks. But if you still want the job, be sure to answer the questions in the response for the type of job. Jobs are broken down in categories; Sales, Customer Service, Service Industry, etc. For Sales you want to be aggressive, powerful, dominant, but if the job has any reference of team orientation be sure to make sure you're a team player. If you are a Server at a restraunt, you need to be a team player, like to multitask, are friendly and outgoing, etc. If you are doing customer service be sure to be super friendly.

In todays world it is all about playing the part. With all the personality tests out there, you need to be an actor to get the job sometimes. If you know what kind of person you are, then you can go after a job that suits you.

For instance if you are a multitasker, the be a Server. If you are aggressive be a salesman. If you like helping people do customer service. It really helps if you can take a few psychological tests to learn what you really are. But in the meantime if you want X job, realize what X job needs in personality traits.

Just hum or think of the Pink Panther tune, until interview starts. Look them straight in the eyes with a seemingly concerned yet interested expression.... like the faces you make when trying to talk your way into a girls pants: "Of Course I Love you!", "Ive never met anyone like you before", "just the tip, I swear".

Dont take long at all to answer, give a firm one and a half pump handshake, loosen your tie as you sit down..... then bullshit like you have never bullshitted before.

Be He who is without Ruth.

I did the same thing.
Just filling out tons of online job applications.
i hate the ones that have the little gay tests attached to them, with like 40 fuckin pages :crankey:
Other than that it's all good... I can do that, then sit back and let the calls come in. I probably filled out about 10 online applications to some random close places.. and got at least 4 interview calls.

so what! just make some rough estimates and say it like your 100% sure. confidence goes a long way. even if you have no idea what youre talkin about, say it like you know it. he probably doesnt know what ever it is either. and if youre wrong then say sorry and act like its no big deal (we all make mistakes right).
the few times i actually got a job was when i put on some nice clothes, threw my shoulders back and did my pimp stut as i marched in and said i was lookin for a job and handed in my resume. and i got the job purely because he said i was "classy". :wtf:

If you're looking for a part time type job, my best advice if you live near a college is to work in the lobby bar of the hotel the parents stay at when visiting their kids.

I wouldn't work in a bar where the kids go because they don't tip good, but the parents do, especially if you tell them you're working your way through school.
