My house
    #5389597 - 03/11/06 03:59 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

j/k

I found this out in the middle of nowhere on a long hike in the woods last fall. it's about 4-5 miles from my actual house. There are miles of endless woods out there.

This old house if miles away from any kind of roads or civilization.

I wonder who or what used to live there :what:!?

It was pretty creepy feeling.

Yeah, if I could even find it again.. kind of tough to know exactly where it even is. There's no landmark or anything.
I found it like a couple days before Halloween too, so that added to the creepiness.

I was on a canoe trip down a river a couple years ago. We found a house in about the same condition and setting. We spent the night near it.
It was very creepy. The house was abandoned and all broken and falling apart.

Mine too, I would like to try and live in a place like that for a while, away from everything. Perhaps I should fix it up and move in a while

That would be one wild trip, especially camping out there all night on acid, I know I'd be shook up by the time that was over.

Reminds me of some of the stuff from growing up in rural illinois. All kinds of weird stuff out in the "woods". Foundations from a burned down house with nothing around for miles. Weird shit with this catholic church that used to be an italian youth camp run by the mob back in the 30s. That place was borderline Evil (with the capital e).

its a perfect place to set up a fallback location in case you ever need to abandon your house- I would stabilize it, keep it looking abandoned and bury a chest full of food and medical suplies- its just the right distance from your house, your lucky man

I could do that.. The place is in horrible condition on the inside.
Bet it would take a lot of work, just to get the things I need out there and find the place again lol.
Not only that, but I bet there's all kinds of crazy bugs/snakes/mammals in there.
Sleeping in there would be like sleeping with the creatures. Which is cool in a way until i wake up with 100s of ants or spiders crawling on me.
We have these wicked wood spiders around here that are so fast. As soon as they detect movement, they move with such speed that you can hardly tell what it is. Not to mention they can get as big or bigger than a tarantula. They tend to like to get into small openings too! So I wouldn't want to sleep with my mouth open!

Any sign of movement eh?

then one of these'll keepem busy all night

A lil renovating wouldn't hurt, I'm sure some cheap rug/tarp- some boards/tape stripping and a new door/seal would make it pretty airtight for bugs in such a small square house like that- you would have to flush all its inhabitants out first- You could also just bury stuff next to it as a landmarker, and then camp out in a tent.

I don't mind them too much. A lot of times they just startle me when i get taken by surprise...
As far as being able to sleep in the midst of them, it takes some concentration but I can do it. Been in camp outs with all kinds of wild bugs.

Wood loving bugs are some of the ones that bother me the most though.

Imagine getting up close and personal with these bad boys:

Damn over gown wood wasp stung me in the hand while I was in my bed one night - that was a great surprise. The huge ones are females I think.

I see these in my older shed sometimes..
That house thing is made of wood too. There's many more types of wood bugs out here. Something about the wood bugs make my skin crawl more than any of the others.

In boyscouts, we camped out by this abby that was notorious for its ticks- I pulled 150 off my body, including one bad boy on my nuts and a bastard on my ass- I can endure insects but my first instinct is to kill them
