Purple color in jars = contam?

I have some strange purple colored rye grains in three of my four jars I recently incubated. They are not fully colonized (only about 60%) but I am assuming this crap is going to just grow more and more...anyone else had this contamination problem? Know what it is or caused by? I am starting to get annoyed with lyvek...anyone else have problems with that? I don't know how I could be more sterile (gloves, oust, ionizer, clean clothes/hands/arms, heat and alcohol needle in between each one) and I am just wondering how I could go about getting less contams. Right now I am at around 65% contamination rate...

there is a very simple rule of thumb in this hobby:
everything thats not white is not good
that should explain what to do next (trashem, start over) hit the contam forum and read the faq in there, very good. peace ohm

hey wait!!!!!!!!!!
Are you using POST OFFICE tyvek?
DOES IT BY CHANCE HAVE RED AND BLUE INK?
red+blue= PURPLE. I've had red, blue and purple stained grains from tyvek before.
Are you getting any smells?
Do you see powder deposits of purple, or just a stained appearance to the grains?
pics?
(never seen a purple contam. purple mushrooms in the forest, purple-black spores, butnever a purple contam. Anything's possible.
check out yer tyvek first. It really does leak dye onto your mycelium... peace and good luck /9and no, i have great luck with tyvek. always great luck. very reliable stuff.

Well... i didnt see flow hood or glovebox mentioned in there, so i know how you could be more sterile. I'll give you two guesses. :P seriously, a simple glove box is really easy to make, even if your not bothering with a possitive pressure, and just making a static one, spraying lysol all around will help you out considerably. Since i made one i havnt had a single jar contam, 100% success rate. It will definitly be well worth your time to construct one, and searching around, there are a lot of teks and examples around on how to build them.

PC = 1h30m
is it because of my tyvek or bandaids? i am going to get micropore tape per request instead of the bandaids.

Yeah, i never really liked those berries myself. Nor wbs, too many sunflower seeds. But all that trouble you went through... then Band-aids? I mean, i guess so... but that 3m micropore tape is worth it's weight in weed. And squares of tyvek that cover the entire jar lid with the band and drilled lid in place have never done me wrong either...

is rye really that much more susceptible to contamination than wbs? if you don't like rye or wbs then what do you usually grow on remediator? i will definitly switch to micropore tape instead of band-aids.

Well. It just starts to get personal at the point when you specifically state a preference.. But this is me... hold on, lemme get a camera... 50# bag... Level Pint... Eyeballin' Ready... Pouring... Perfect! Tyvek Ready for PC.
Then PC for an hour and a half or so, then shake as soon as you can handle, to prevent clumping of starches... Works for me. Thousands of jars like this Keep trying. use what you've got and be thorough, or seek alternative methods. Almost any method can be successful, but each has it's own quirks... good luck!

Contam in your jars wtf? I am the least of sterile and I am impatient. I soak for 20 hours instead of 24 I do not strain and rince properly I pc for only 45 minutes I inoculate without flaming my needle and just rubbing some alchol on it. I do it in a dirty kitchen in a trailor and all my jars are at 90% with NO contams. You must have skipped soaking maybe or simmering?

too long of simmer.... starches, leading to a bacterial infection.
when the jar is not colonizing on the bottom... there's something wrong. i bet those jars smell like rotten apples don't they?
