Novel Music
    #5388802 - 03/11/06 10:57 AM (17 years, 10 months ago)

So i have an idea for a good thread. Everyone post one artist, or a few if you must, of the most original, novel music that you've listened to yet.

Could be just some drumming, a very crazy classical peice, an infected mushroom song that you just can't get away from, or anything in between. I'll start..

Plaid. They have some VERY interesting music, all done extremely well. At first i didn't like it and almost hated it, but the more i listened the more i heard, i suppose

Tabla Beat Science.

Amazing drumming, probably one of THE best tabla players in the world. Great chill music, worth checking out if you like world/indian sounds.

Ozric Tentacles

There are bands that play the same style as them, but no one does it as well as they do.  They are just simply fucking amazing.

They can play anything, from almost psy-trance like beats and rhythms to slow mind melting ambient pieces, sometimes in the same song.  Checkout this song I attached, called Tight Spin.  This is Ozrics at their best, in my opinion of course.  So many different styles of music in one song.  The transitions are simply breathtaking...ok, I'll stop rambling now.

Here, Sidney Bechet. 'Shake it or Break it'

Sweet, sweet, sweet jazz. Beatiful dual horns, the kind of music that lets me just forget everything and just float in the swing.

Blockhead.Their album Downtown Science is unusual and extremely good.

The Orb... the peel sessions. Awesome ambient music for tripping out to or just for reading.

The song Piano Grand done by Groove Armada is pretty sweet too.

Front 242: Mixage Mutage. The song Happiness is a trip in itself.

Symphony X - The Odessey <--simply an amazing 20 something minute long prog metal journey.

Refused - Refused is Fucking Dead (ep version)<--infectious beats with serious hardcore-punk edge, it's pretty much a remix of the version on the shape of punk to come.

Nobou Uematsu - One Winged Angel (FF VII, Advent Children Version)
<--insane combination of metal, opera, and classical music, a must listen, the lyrics are in latin and sung by a choir, heavenly serene and evil as hell at the same time.

Stretch Armstrong covering NWA - Express Yourself <--Because you'd never believe how well this song translates to hardcore.

Jason Webley, a local bard here in Seattle. Gravelly pirate folk. He's great to wake up to in the morning, and if you /ever/ get a chance to see this man live, do it. He's a born performer, and he will give you a fantastical party if you give him a chance.

Yes. I also dig the hell out of Tabla Beat Science, Karsh Kale, anything that Bill Laswell is involved in, Vas, and of course sts9. All very novel artists.
